Harefield kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Long perimeter runs and an island mean level has to hold across the whole room rather than along any one wall. Two to three hours on site, once the units are fitted, fixed and level. The room as it is, to the millimetre.
The least uniform stock in the borough. Village cottages and rural plots with Belfast sinks, freestanding ranges, mixed timber and stone surfaces, and occasional outbuilding or annexe kitchens.
Plenty of these properties run oil, LPG or solid-fuel ranges, so the aperture and heat clearances differ from a standard cooker on almost every job.
Doorways are low and narrow, which is a genuine constraint on piece length before anything else is considered. Long perimeter runs and an island mean level has to hold across the whole room, so the templater sets a single datum and works every run and the island off it rather than levelling each wall in isolation. Two to three hours, once the units are in.
What we are usually templating in is Village cottage, Victorian terrace, former hospital staff housing and rural farmhouse and barn conversion. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered on our west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
period detached houses and villas
What gets asked for here
Where an annexe has been built or converted, its floor and its walls are newer than the main house and behave differently under the same run. Two to three hours on site, with the sink, tap and hob physically present. Appliances on site, not on order.
The research on this patch puts this at the top of the list, above worktop design & quotation and worktop fabrication.
period detached houses and villas
The building, and what it does to the job
Level across the room rather than along one wall - a floor that falls away from one end to the other shows up as a step between the island top and the perimeter run once both are down.
period detached houses and villas
Getting stone into the room
Country lanes with no pavements, single-track sections and passing places. Parking is never the issue, lane width and getting a long-wheelbase van turned round is.
period detached houses and villas
True everywhere, stated once
A template records what the building actually did, not what the plan intended. How far those two things diverge is entirely a function of when the house was built.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop templating in Harefield
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Harefield?
Yes. Harefield is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are UB9. It is worked on our west London run, along with the rest of Hillingdon. Where the van can pull up level with the gate the pieces are handled the fewest times, which is what actually protects them. The templating visit needs somewhere to stop for two or three hours, which is a different problem from unloading for twenty minutes. The templater needs a proper stop, not a pause. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Harefield change how worktop templating works?
Doorways are low and narrow, which is a genuine constraint on piece length before anything else is considered. The island is templated for its overhang, its support and the position of the hob or sink within it, with sockets and any pop-up left where they will genuinely be. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn. Plenty of these properties run oil, LPG or solid-fuel ranges, so the aperture and heat clearances differ from a standard cooker on almost every job.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Harefield?
Country lanes with no pavements, single-track sections and passing places. Parking is never the issue, lane width and getting a long-wheelbase van turned round is. Everything comes through the front door and down the hall, so the tightest point on the route is usually the newel post at the foot of the stairs. The templater measures that route on the same visit, so the drawing leaves site already knowing the maximum piece. The template records it along with everything else.
Is worktop templating the job you do most in Harefield?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop design & quotation and worktop fabrication. Extended households run kitchens hard, and that pushes the specification towards granite or sintered stone rather than a light quartz. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is inconvenient exactly when a programme is tight. Appliances on site, not on order. Households sharing a house tend to want two prep areas rather than one, which usually means an island as well as a perimeter run. Two to three hours on site, with the sink, tap and hob physically present. The room as it is, not as it was drawn.
Why do two Harefield kitchens the same size price differently?
The catch with a galley is that both runs are seen end-on from the doorway, so any difference in overhang between the two reads immediately. Join positions and vein direction are marked on the template drawing before it leaves site. The drawing leaves site complete. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
The returns into a breast recess are the tightest scribes in the room, and they are eased in rather than forced. The template plots it as it is, at the exact height the worktop will sit, and the drawing carries that through. Measured at worktop height, nowhere else. All runs and the island carcass fixed down and levelled to one datum, with the sink, tap and hob on site - an island cannot be templated while it is still loose or sitting on packers. Owner-occupied kitchens are usually being done once, which is why the edge profile, the vein direction and where a join falls are worth the conversation. A template booked hopefully around another trade is the commonest cause of a wasted visit. No stone is cut from a plan.
