Neasden kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
A side passage and a back door mean the stone rarely has to come through the house, which changes the job more than most people expect. Socket positions, sill heights and wall flatness are the three things that settle this, and all three are properties of the building. The wall decides, not the brochure.
When there are two kitchens, quote them as two jobs with different specs; the outside prep kitchen sees direct heat and needs upstands rather than a tiled edge. That second space wants a hardwearing, easy-wipe top and full-height splashback more than it wants a showpiece finish. Large interwar family houses with heavily used kitchens, and a distinct local pattern of a main fitted kitchen plus a separate hard-working prep or spice kitchen in an outhouse or extension.
Original quarry-tiled floors sit lower than a later screed, so a run crossing that junction needs the units packed to one level. That leaves a ragged band right where the upstand has to sit, which is fine for a 100mm upstand that covers it, but a full-height splashback needs the wall made good first or it will rock on the high spots. The wall makes that decision, not the brochure.
The mix here is 1930s semi, 1930s terrace and post-war estate housing. A quote that ignores which one you have is guessing.
True everywhere
Splashbacks and upstands, in short
- Cut from the same slab run as the worktop, at the same time.
- Ordered later, from a different batch, the match is not reliable where the pieces meet.
- Socket and switch positions must be final before templating.
- The joint to the worktop is siliconed, never grouted.
Covered on our north west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
1930s and inter-war semis
Getting stone into the room
Wide 1930s roads, front drives on much of the stock, and reasonable side access, but the North Circular slip roads and the industrial traffic around Neasden Lane make arrival times unpredictable.
Rear access usually lets us fit longer pieces whole, so the join count ends up decided by the slab rather than by the building. It is usually the full-height panels rather than the tops that will not make the turn, and that only shows up when they arrive. Joint positions follow from that.

What gets asked for here
This is one of the three jobs that come up most here, behind worktop installation. It is the same template visit, the same workshop and the same installers either way.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop splashbacks & upstands in Neasden
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Neasden?
Yes. Neasden is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are NW10, NW2. It is worked on our north west London run, along with the rest of Brent. Gravel and block paving both look like hard standing and neither takes a loaded trolley, so the run from tail lift to door gets boarded. Splashbacks are normally the last thing off, so a short parking window is exactly when they get rushed. Handling is where these pieces get damaged. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Neasden change how worktop splashbacks & upstands works?
There is usually a shared rear alley, and whether the gate onto it is unlocked decides whether long pieces come in from the back. These kitchens are nearly always retiled at least twice, and stripping the old tiles takes the bottom course of plaster with it because the original laminate top ran underneath the tiles rather than up to them. The wall makes that decision, not the brochure. When there are two kitchens, quote them as two jobs with different specs; the outside prep kitchen sees direct heat and needs upstands rather than a tiled edge.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Neasden?
Wide 1930s roads, front drives on much of the stock, and reasonable side access, but the North Circular slip roads and the industrial traffic around Neasden Lane make arrival times unpredictable. Rear access usually lets us fit longer pieces whole, so the join count ends up decided by the slab rather than by the building. It is usually the full-height panels rather than the tops that will not make the turn, and that only shows up when they arrive. It decides panel size before anything is cut.
Do you do much worktop splashbacks & upstands around Neasden?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop installation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. Socket and switch positions have to be final before templating, because a cut-out in the wrong place means a new piece. Same batch, same run, same day. The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. Ordered later from a different batch, the match is not reliable exactly where the pieces meet. Sockets final before template.
Why do two Neasden kitchens the same size price differently?
Galley runs are usually short enough to come out of a single slab, so the material band you choose does more to the total than the room shape does. Long runs almost never take a single panel, so the joint positions want agreeing before anything is templated. Corners get their own pieces. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
The returns into a breast recess are the tightest scribes in the room, and they are eased in rather than forced. It is usually what pushes a job towards a 100mm upstand instead of a full-height panel, because an upstand rides what a panel exposes. Make the wall good first, or accept the detail. The old tiling must be off and the wall made good and dry before templating, not on fitting day. Mixed ownership means the decision-maker is not always the person who lets us in, so it is worth being clear early about who signs the quote off. Full-height panels need the wall made good first, which is another trade and another timescale. Decided before fabrication, not after.
