Northwood kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Solid brick with a sand and cement render is firm to work against and reliably out of plumb across the length of a run. The fitting day is planned backwards from all of it, before the first piece comes off the van. One visit, our own installers.
Big detached houses running to double islands, bookmatched veined slabs, full-height stone splashback panels and boiling taps.
Private drives, electric gates and deep gravel. The difficulty is ground surface and gradient rather than parking, and some properties need track boards laid to reach the door. Bookmatching is the expectation here, so slab selection and a dry lay at the yard happen before a single cut is made. Long lead times and premium specification are normal rather than exceptional.
Solid brick with a render coat is firm to work against and out of plumb, so the scribe at worktop height is different from the one at plinth level. Access is usually the easy part here, as most of these have a side gate and a back door straight into the kitchen, so we carry down the side alley rather than through the house and keep the mess outside. That is the shape of the day.
The mix here is Interwar detached, postwar detached, gated modern development and large Edwardian villa. They are not interchangeable, and a worktop finds the differences quickly.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Getting stone into the room
Sign-in at the gate, a permit on the dash and a named contact are usually wanted before anything comes off the van. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. None of it is worked out on the doorstep.

What gets asked for here
It is on the shortlist for this patch rather than at the top of it, because worktop design & quotation comes up more often. Nothing about the process differs between the two.

True everywhere, stated once
Installation is the day the templating either pays off or does not. Almost everything that makes it hard is a property of the building rather than the stone.
Access
Getting stone into a Northwood kitchen
Private drives, electric gates and deep gravel. The difficulty is ground surface and gradient rather than parking, and some properties need track boards laid to reach the door.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.
3–7 working days
From template to fitted, working days from template. The same on this patch as every other.

Questions
Worktop installation in Northwood
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Northwood?
Yes. Northwood is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are HA6. It is worked on our west London run, along with the rest of Hillingdon. Off-street parking means the van stays put all day, so tools, packers and the offcut we would rather have than not are all within reach. The fitting slot is set around it, which is why we ask about it when the date is booked and not before we leave the yard. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Northwood change how worktop installation works?
Solid brick with a render coat is firm to work against and out of plumb, so the scribe at worktop height is different from the one at plinth level. Access is usually the easy part here, as most of these have a side gate and a back door straight into the kitchen, so we carry down the side alley rather than through the house and keep the mess outside. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted. Bookmatching is the expectation here, so slab selection and a dry lay at the yard happen before a single cut is made.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Northwood?
Private drives, electric gates and deep gravel. The difficulty is ground surface and gradient rather than parking, and some properties need track boards laid to reach the door. Where the parking court sits behind the block the carry crosses open ground and gets boarded, because loaded trolleys and block paving do not agree. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. It gets checked before the first piece is lifted.
Do you do much worktop installation around Northwood?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop design & quotation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. One visit, done properly. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. Sealed before we leave.
Why do two Northwood kitchens the same size price differently?
Seating overhangs past roughly 300mm will not carry on the carcass alone, so flat steel bar or a plywood substrate has to be built into the units first. On the day that means dry-laying the whole layout first and only then pulling and bonding the joins. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
Alcove pieces get cut oversize on both scribe edges, with the true wall angles carried on the template drawing rather than assumed. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. Eased in, never forced. Unlock and clear the side gate and back door, and move bins, planters and washing lines out of the alley run. An owner living in the house makes the decisions and lives with them, so the specification tends to go towards the material rather than towards the lowest total. Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door, communal or otherwise. Access for the whole slot, or a different day.
