Primrose Hill kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Lath and plaster, a settled floor and a hall with a turn in it are the three things that decide how this job runs. The template records what the building actually did, not what the plan intended, and the gap between those two is what this visit is for. The room as it is, to the millimetre.
Tall narrow houses where the kitchen sits at garden level at the back of the lower ground, one room deep, so you are working to a 3-4m single run with a small return and rarely an island.
Everything goes down those area steps under the front bridge, through a railing gate that is frequently under a metre wide. The area-stair route caps slab size long before the kitchen does, so plan joins around what will physically pass the railing gate rather than around the sink position. The stucco terraces have shallow rear extensions rather than full-width returns, so the room stays long and thin no matter what the designer draws.
Listing and conservation conditions apply to a good number of these, which constrains what can be altered around the kitchen rather than what goes on top of the units. Victorian party walls and chimney-breast returns bow along their length, so the template plots the real line rather than assuming a straight one - the template picks up points every few hundred millimetres down the back of the run and the drawing carries that curve through to the saw. Two to three hours, once the units are in.
The mix here is early Victorian stucco terrace, Regency terrace, conversion flat and mews. A quote that ignores which one you have is guessing.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered on our central and north London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
The research on this patch puts this at the top of the list, above worktop installation and worktop design & quotation.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
Getting stone into the room
Permit-only bays, waiting restrictions along most of the crescent frontages, and houses set behind railings with a bridge to the raised front door and a separate area stair down to the kitchen.
Door width, hall width and the diagonal at the turn are three separate measurements, and it is the diagonal that catches people out. Door widths, turn diagonals and any change of level are recorded on the drawing alongside the run dimensions. It goes on the drawing with the run dimensions.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop templating in Primrose Hill
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Primrose Hill on your patch?
Yes. Primrose Hill is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are NW1, NW3. It is worked on our central and north London run, along with the rest of Camden. Where the frontage is a clearway the unload happens away from the door and the carry gets longer, which is a crew and time question rather than a stone one. It is noted on the job sheet at template so the fitting crew inherit the answer rather than rediscovering it. The templater needs a proper stop, not a pause. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop templating in Primrose Hill be any different from anywhere else?
Listing and conservation conditions apply to a good number of these, which constrains what can be altered around the kitchen rather than what goes on top of the units. Alcoves either side of the breast are rarely the same width and rarely parallel, so each one is templated as its own piece with its own scribe. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn. The area-stair route caps slab size long before the kitchen does, so plan joins around what will physically pass the railing gate rather than around the sink position.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Primrose Hill?
Permit-only bays, waiting restrictions along most of the crescent frontages, and houses set behind railings with a bridge to the raised front door and a separate area stair down to the kitchen. Everything goes down those area steps under the front bridge, through a railing gate that is frequently under a metre wide. Door width, hall width and the diagonal at the turn are three separate measurements, and it is the diagonal that catches people out. Door widths, turn diagonals and any change of level are recorded on the drawing alongside the run dimensions. It goes on the drawing with the run dimensions.
Is Primrose Hill mostly worktop templating work for you?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop installation and worktop design & quotation. Conversions put kitchens where the services could be made to reach rather than where they belong, so runs are short and interrupted. The template visit is booked once the units are genuinely in, not when they are nearly in. Appliances on site, not on order.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
A galley puts the sink on one side and the hob on the other, which spreads the cut-outs across two pieces instead of weakening one. A layout templated off one wall instead of one datum will not sit right once all the pieces are down together. Real angles, not plan angles. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Primrose Hill?
Walls that bow along their length are the normal condition rather than the exception, and a straight-cut back edge will show a shadow gap at one end and touch at the other. The template plots it as it is, at the exact height the worktop will sit, and the drawing carries that through. That is why the visit takes two or three hours. Units fixed and packed level over the sloping floor, walls replastered and dry at their final thickness (tiling and splashbacks go on after the worktop, never before), and the sink, tap and hob physically on site, with a Belfast sink built in and set at its finished height. Where ownership is split across a building, the common parts belong to someone else and the carry route is negotiated rather than assumed. A template booked hopefully around another trade is the commonest cause of a wasted visit. Fitted, fixed and level, then we come.
