West Green kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Lath and plaster, a settled floor and a hall with a turn in it are the three things that decide how this job runs. Two to three hours on site, once the units are fitted, fixed and level. The room as it is, to the millimetre.
That gives a rectangular kitchen with a 3.2m run and a table, or a small peninsula where the old back wall stood.
Flat streets, which is a relief after Crouch End, but they are narrow with permit bays both sides and speed cushions. Family terraces around Downhills Park, a good number now extended at the back with a simple flat-roof addition rather than a full side return.
The rear extension is frequently original rather than added, which means it is solidly built and just as far out of square as the rest of the house. Alcoves either side of the breast are rarely the same width and rarely parallel, so each one is templated as its own piece with its own scribe. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn.
The buildings themselves are mostly Victorian terrace, Edwardian terrace and 1960s low-rise estate. Which of those you have decides most of what follows.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered on our north London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. Two to three hours on site, with the sink, tap and hob physically present. Appliances on site, not on order.
Second or third on the list around here, after worktop replacement. Same visit, same bench, same crew, same lead time.

The building, and what it does to the job
Flat-roof rear extensions here often have a shallow lintel over the garden doors - check the head height before planning a tall bank at the end of the run.

Getting stone into the room
Most houses have a side alley shared with the neighbour, gated at the front.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
True everywhere, stated once
A template records what the building actually did, not what the plan intended. How far those two things diverge is entirely a function of when the house was built.

Getting stone into a West Green kitchen

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop templating in West Green
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in West Green, or just list it?
Yes. West Green is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are N15. It is worked on our north London run, along with the rest of Haringey. Enforcement zones rarely accept a trade van unloading stone as an exemption, so this gets sorted before the date is confirmed rather than argued about afterwards. A templater circling for a space arrives late into a slot that was already tight, and the drawing is what suffers. The templater needs a proper stop, not a pause. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop templating in West Green?
The rear extension is frequently original rather than added, which means it is solidly built and just as far out of square as the rest of the house. The template plots the bow along the back of the run, which is why a tape reading taken beforehand never matches. No stone is ever cut from a plan. Flat-roof rear extensions here often have a shallow lintel over the garden doors - check the head height before planning a tall bank at the end of the run.
Is access a problem in West Green?
Flat streets, which is a relief after Crouch End, but they are narrow with permit bays both sides and speed cushions. Most houses have a side alley shared with the neighbour, gated at the front. A side gate and a back door mean the stone never goes through the house at all, which keeps the dust and most of the risk outside. A template taken without walking the route produces a drawing that cuts beautifully and will not go in. The template records it along with everything else.
Do you do much worktop templating around West Green?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. Two to three hours on site, with the sink, tap and hob physically present. The room as it is, not as it was drawn.
What decides the price of a worktop in West Green?
The free end is what needs deciding early: square edge, mitred apron down the end, or a full waterfall to the floor, and a waterfall is cut in sequence off the same part of the slab. A layout templated off one wall instead of one datum will not sit right once all the pieces are down together. One datum for the whole room. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
Sill height gets settled with the template on site, because it is one of the few dimensions nobody has measured before we arrive. One measurement never describes it, which is why a tape reading taken before the visit rarely matches the template. That is why the visit takes two or three hours. Units fixed and packed level over the sloping floor, walls replastered and dry at their final thickness (tiling and splashbacks go on after the worktop, never before), and the sink, tap and hob physically on site, with a Belfast sink built in and set at its finished height. The same building type can arrive as a careful one-off kitchen or as a fast turnaround, and the honest answer is that they are priced differently. A template booked hopefully around another trade is the commonest cause of a wasted visit. No stone is cut from a plan.
