The structure below is commercial, so the floor is often timber over a shop ceiling and the load path under an island is worth thinking about. A whole slab still gets reserved, because a dozen matching tops is the entire point of ordering them together. What the parade allows is what the room can seat.

The grooves sit inside the depth of the top with stone left either side, so a shallow run limits them. A groove set is its own item on the quote rather than something rolled in with the sink cut-out. Machining is permanent. If a later kitchen moves the sink, the grooves stay where they were cut. Doorways are 762mm at best, and the turn from the hall into the kitchen is the pinch point rather than the front door. A Belfast or butler sink has to be installed and at its final height before the template, because the stone is cut to sit on it. If the sink or hob changes after the template, the drawing changes first and nothing is cut meanwhile. On a heavily veined stone the island and the run behind it are nested off the same area of slab so the movement relates across the room.
