Grove Park kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Solid brick with a sand and cement render is firm to work against and reliably out of plumb across the length of a run. Two to three hours on site, once the units are fitted, fixed and level. The room as it is, to the millimetre.
Interwar semis with a rear kitchen and separate dining room, plus a large slice of postwar estate housing with compact galleys. Extensions here are usually single-storey rear rather than side return, ending in a 3.5m run with a peninsula.
Driveway access means a full-length piece is usually deliverable, the constraint is the internal doorway, not the street.
An inter-war terrace is wider than a Victorian one and shallower than a semi, so the kitchen is a compact square room rather than a galley. Where the room has been knocked through to the dining room or opened into a later extension, the two floors rarely sit at the same level and the whole opening has to be shot across from one datum. Two to three hours, once the units are in.
What we are usually templating in is 1930s semi, interwar terrace, postwar estate and 1960s low-rise flats. The differences between them show up at template, not at enquiry.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered on our south east London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
1930s and inter-war semis
What gets asked for here
A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is inconvenient exactly when a programme is tight. Units fitted, fixed and level first.
It is on the shortlist for this patch rather than at the top of it, because worktop installation comes up more often. Nothing about the process differs between the two.

Getting stone into the room
Suburban roads with drives and verges, though the railway and the Chinbrook end leave several dead-end streets with limited turning; parking is generally free and on-plot.
1930s and inter-war semis
True everywhere, stated once
A template records what the building actually did, not what the plan intended. How far those two things diverge is entirely a function of when the house was built.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop templating in Grove Park
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Grove Park?
Yes. Grove Park is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SE12. It is worked on our south east London run, along with the rest of Lewisham. A front drive is the best thing that can happen to a fitting day, because the tail lift comes down within a few metres of the door and nothing is on a clock. A templater circling for a space arrives late into a slot that was already tight, and the drawing is what suffers. It goes on the job sheet for the fitting crew. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Grove Park change how worktop templating works?
The back door frequently opens straight into the kitchen, which is the best carry route in the house and the one people forget to mention. The typical 1930s kitchen sits at the back with a low window over the sink run, so the template records the exact sill height above the units to settle whether an upstand fits or the stone has to die into a window board. Two to three hours, once the units are in. Driveway access means a full-length piece is usually deliverable, the constraint is the internal doorway, not the street.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Grove Park?
Suburban roads with drives and verges, though the railway and the Chinbrook end leave several dead-end streets with limited turning; parking is generally free and on-plot. The van gets close to the door and the stone comes off the tail lift onto a trolley, which is about the shortest carry we ever get. A template taken without walking the route produces a drawing that cuts beautifully and will not go in. It goes on the drawing with the run dimensions.
Is worktop templating common in Grove Park?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop installation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is inconvenient exactly when a programme is tight. Appliances on site, not on order.
Why do two Grove Park kitchens the same size price differently?
Galley runs are usually short enough to come out of a single slab, so the material band you choose does more to the total than the room shape does. The template records every angle in that shape as it actually is rather than as the plan drew it. One datum for the whole room. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
A chimney breast left in place splits a wall into two alcoves, and the two are rarely the same width and rarely parallel to each other. The template plots it as it is, at the exact height the worktop will sit, and the drawing carries that through. That is why the visit takes two or three hours. All base units in, including anything standing on the later extension slab, walls skimmed to final thickness, and the sink, tap and hob delivered so cut-outs and tap centres are set from the actual items. Consent for the work sits with the freeholder or the managing body, and getting it in writing first avoids a crew arriving to a locked door. The templater needs the sink, tap and hob on site, and a Belfast sink installed at its final height. Fitted, fixed and level, then we come.
