North Kensington kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Lath and plaster, a settled floor and a hall with a turn in it are the three things that decide how this job runs. Protection down, dry-lay, scribe, then bond: the order matters more in a difficult room than an easy one. One visit, our own installers.
Where whole houses survive intact the kitchen sits in a back addition with a step down into it, which puts a level change right where the worktop meets the wall.
A high proportion of the stock is flats formed out of Victorian terraces or purpose-built estate blocks, so the typical job is a single-run replacement of 2.2-3.0m with a small return, keeping the existing sink and hob positions. On the terraced streets the bays are resident-permit with short loading tolerance, so plan a two-vehicle approach: van in, unload, van out. Estate deliveries need the block entry code and often a lift key from the caretaker, and several blocks have a stepped podium between the parking and the entrance door. Levels are the recurring problem in the back additions - the floor drops away from the house so the base units are packed and the worktop is the only thing hiding it.
The addition wall is half a brick thick in places and has usually had a damp course injected and been re-plastered, which leaves it neither flat nor consistent. We measure the front door, the hall width and the turn into the kitchen before anything comes off the van, because a 3m piece has to swing through that corner on edge and stone does not bend to help you. The slow parts are slow for a reason.
The buildings themselves are mostly Victorian terrace in multiple occupation, postwar council estate, 1960s slab block and recent housing association infill. They are not interchangeable, and a worktop finds the differences quickly.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
Where a single building holds several small kitchens, the work arrives as one job rather than four, and it should be cut off the same slab run so the batches genuinely match. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. The prep list is not optional.
Second or third on the list around here, after worktop replacement. Same visit, same bench, same crew, same lead time.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
The building, and what it does to the job
There is nearly always a boxed service duct or a stopcock cupboard in one corner, and it eats into the usable depth of the run. The carry is the constraint. The slow parts are slow for a reason.

Getting stone into a North Kensington kitchen
Estate deliveries need the block entry code and often a lift key from the caretaker, and several blocks have a stepped podium between the parking and the entrance door. On the terraced streets the bays are resident-permit with short loading tolerance, so plan a two-vehicle approach: van in, unload, van out.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in North Kensington
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover North Kensington?
Yes. North Kensington is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are W10. It is worked on our west London run, along with the rest of Kensington and Chelsea. Permit hours are what matters, not the permit itself, because a bay that frees up at six in the evening is no use for a template at ten. The fitting slot is set around it, which is why we ask about it when the date is booked and not before we leave the yard. The day is built around that window. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in North Kensington change how worktop installation works?
The addition wall is half a brick thick in places and has usually had a damp course injected and been re-plastered, which leaves it neither flat nor consistent. The day is planned backwards from the hall, and the scribing takes longer than the carry. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted. Levels are the recurring problem in the back additions - the floor drops away from the house so the base units are packed and the worktop is the only thing hiding it.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in North Kensington?
Estate deliveries need the block entry code and often a lift key from the caretaker, and several blocks have a stepped podium between the parking and the entrance door. On the terraced streets the bays are resident-permit with short loading tolerance, so plan a two-vehicle approach: van in, unload, van out. Where the lift will not take the longest run we design a join in rather than gamble, because a piece that will not go up has to go back on the van. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. That is what the morning is planned around.
Do you do much worktop installation around North Kensington?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Where a single building holds several small kitchens, the work arrives as one job rather than four, and it should be cut off the same slab run so the batches genuinely match. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. Sealed before we leave. Batching several kitchens together is the one situation where buying a whole slab is cheaper per kitchen rather than more expensive. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. One visit, done properly.
Why do two North Kensington kitchens the same size price differently?
Galley runs are usually short enough to come out of a single slab, so the material band you choose does more to the total than the room shape does. A layout that has been packed and levelled run by run instead of to one datum shows as a step where two pieces meet. Nothing is bonded until the whole run sits flat. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
Floors settle, and once base units are packed and levelled properly the stone sits true while everything else in the room admits it is not. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. Eased in, never forced. Clear the full hall and stairs route of furniture, bikes, coats and stair-gates, and keep the front door propped and unobstructed for the carry. The same building type can arrive as a careful one-off kitchen or as a fast turnaround, and the honest answer is that they are priced differently. Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door, communal or otherwise. Access for the whole slot, or a different day.
