A fit-out programme puts the counter last, behind the joiner and the electrician, which is exactly when the least time is left to template it. The joiner has to finish before we are able to start.

A dropped pan years later is a different question, and stone is remade rather than filled either way. A remake goes back through the same cutting and polishing, so it is a return visit rather than a patch. Damage found on the bench never leaves the workshop, and damage on the carry is remade under the same cover. The hall is the only way in and out for whoever lives there, so it is cleared and then kept clear for as long as pieces are moving. The lower transaction shelf is short and easily handled; it is the upper counter that has to be walked in on edge and turned at every corner. Two heights means two carries, and the low one is not the difficult one.

The edge profile is its own line, so a shaped edge and a square one are two different figures. What moves the figure after templating is a change you make: a different edge, an extra cut-out, a bigger sink chosen late. The quote is written from the template drawing. Before that it works from what you have described. A run can measure dead right at both ends and still belly out in the middle, which only appears once the template plots the intermediate points. Where the floor falls away across a lobby the carcass is packed level first, because the top cannot correct anything sitting under it. A counter standing proud of the wall has nothing to hide behind.
