Stroud Green kitchens
The buildings and streets around Stroud Green
If bathroom worktop fitting in Stroud Green is on your list this year, the useful starting point is not the colour but the shape of the room. Dense conversion territory - most houses are split into two or three flats and the kitchens are small, often knocked into the living space so the whole flat is one room. Typical is a 2.6m run along one wall with a fridge tower and no space for an island of any kind. Send through a photograph or two and the rough run length. We will tell you what you are probably dealing with.
Thick external walls, deep window reveals and boxed risers mean the runs are templated to what is there rather than to a rectangle. None of it changes the material, but it does decide whether the top comes out of offcut stock or wants a slab bought for it alone. A window reveal in a bathroom is stone as much as the vanity is.
Inter-war purpose-built blocks have curved external walls and steel windows, so a run along an outside wall is following a genuine curve rather than a bow. Walls are thick and out of true, so a vanity is scribed at both ends and the splash return is cut to follow the wall rather than a straight line. What the wall is made of decides how the unit is fixed.
What we are usually templating in is Victorian terrace, Edwardian conversion flat and purpose-built 1900s flat. They fail in different places, which is why the survey looks at different things.
True everywhere
Bathroom worktops and vanity tops, in short
- Standard vanity depths are far narrower than a kitchen run, so most tops come out of offcut stock.
- Undermount basins are bonded and the aperture is polished, because the cut edge is visible from above.
- Tap holes are drilled to the tap you have actually bought, not to a standard spacing.
- We seat and seal the basin. A plumber connects the water and waste.

The place
Why Stroud Green is its own job
A quote for Stroud Green that ignores how the slab gets in is a quote that will change on the day. Stroud Green Road is narrow with permanent double yellows outside the shops, and the residential streets are permit-only with speed tables that jolt a loaded van. Second and third floor conversions with no lift are the norm. Rental and shared-house refits dominate, so the spec is usually a hard-wearing mid-range quartz with square edges and matching upstands - keep the joints minimal because these tops get abused. Every one of those is a question we ask on the design visit, long before anybody talks about a deposit.
The work
What bathroom worktops involves
The work carries the same five year workmanship guarantee as a kitchen, because seating stone is the same work at either size. A plumber connects the tap, trap and waste afterwards, so the visit is booked to land between their first and second fix. You end up with a top fixed to a unit that was levelled first, so the line where stone meets tiling reads straight along its length.
Bathroom worktops are the same material and the same machines as a kitchen, cut to the narrower depths a bathroom unit actually takes. We seat and seal the basin and leave the trap, waste and supply for the plumber to connect on a later visit. A deep reveal at the window is machined as its own piece with a return on it, not butted on later from a second offcut. Drilled to your tap, not to a standard spacing.

The money
What it costs in Stroud Green
Ordering the bathroom with the kitchen comes cheaper than ordering it afterwards, because it shares the template visit, the slab and the fitting day. In a galley the runs are short and the cut-outs are close together, so the fixed operations carry more of the total than the stone does. The stone is quoted at £110 to £550 per square metre supply only, and the labour is kept out of it deliberately, because a blended rate hides the lines you would otherwise question. Priced by the operations in the top, not the area of it.

Victorian and Edwardian terraces
Stroud Green in the housing figures
Locally the stock is overwhelmingly Victorian and Edwardian. Stair turns and landing widths decide the piece list. Pipe boxing upstairs is worked around rather than moved, and it takes away the depth a basin was counting on. The figures shape the bathroom quote; the template fixes it.

What Stroud Green asks for
Nobody reseals a worktop annually in a let property, so a material that depends on being resealed is the wrong specification however well it photographs. A let bathroom wants quartz for the same reason a let kitchen does: nothing to seal, and nothing an incoming tenant has to be briefed on. Quartz in a let bathroom, because nothing needs sealing.
The building stock on this patch tells us nothing useful about this service, because this service is not driven by it. It is driven by worktop replacement, worktop splashbacks & upstands and worktop installation on the domestic side. The method does not change.

Getting stone into a Stroud Green kitchen
Stroud Green Road is narrow with permanent double yellows outside the shops, and the residential streets are permit-only with speed tables that jolt a loaded van. Second and third floor conversions with no lift are the norm.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Questions we get asked in Stroud Green
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Stroud Green, or just list it?
Yes. Stroud Green is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are N4. It is worked on our north London run, along with the rest of Haringey. Applying for a suspension means naming a length of kerb and a date, and moving the date generally means applying for it again. Where the van cannot wait, the top, the shelves and the adhesive all come in on the first trip and the van goes. The bathroom pieces come off last and go in first. You never have to visit anything or collect anything: we template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen.
Why would bathroom worktops in Stroud Green be any different from anywhere else?
These blocks were built with a lift from new, which will usually take a worktop and almost never takes a full-length island piece. A bathroom in a block like this was usually carved out of a larger room, so the proportions are odd, the ceiling is high and the window reveals are deep enough to be worth cutting in stone. The bathroom in a house like this is rarely where it started. A notch around a boxed stack is machined with a radius at the internal corner, because a square inside corner there is exactly where a top will crack. A vanity has no depth to lose, so where a kitchen run would take a ten millimetre scribe without noticing, a shallow top cannot spare it. A pipe boxing gets a radiused notch, never a square one.
What is the carry like in Stroud Green?
A walk-up with winders at every half-landing means the piece is rested and re-gripped on the way, so the crew size goes up before the piece size comes down. The exception is a double vanity, which is a kitchen length in bathroom width and behaves like a worktop from the tail lift onwards. Nobody carries a drilled vanity top by one end. A suspension is charged by the bay and by the day, so the number of metres asked for is worth getting right the first time. A bathroom booked on its own rarely fills a day, so it can be put into whichever part of the day the street is easiest. A vanity fit ends before most parking restrictions do.
Does Stroud Green actually ask for bathroom worktops?
Not really, and claiming otherwise would cost nothing and mean nothing. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop replacement, worktop splashbacks & upstands and worktop installation. It reflects the local housing rather than any difference in the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted here the same way it is anywhere else on the patch. Agents book this work at short notice, because the void only becomes a real date once the outgoing tenant confirms they are going. Work of that kind brings en-suites with it, and an en-suite vanity is a smaller piece again carrying exactly the same four operations. Repeat work is where a vanity stops being an afterthought. A managed portfolio tends to repeat one specification across every flat, which keeps later repairs and replacements simple to order. Where several bathrooms are done in one building the tops come off one slab run, because two greys from two batches sit badly on adjoining floors. Several small tops nest better than one large one.
Where does the money go on a Stroud Green worktop?
A galley that is also the route to the back door is a corridor first and a kitchen second, and what the shape can take is set by the traffic going through it. That shape decides what is left on the slab when the kitchen has been cut, and what is left on the slab is where most vanity tops come from. A double vanity is nested like a worktop, not like an offcut. Supply only, material is £110 to £550 per square metre, with templating, fabrication and fitting quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Stroud Green?
A live soil stack cannot be chased back into the wall, so the depth it steals is permanent and the run is planned around it rather than through it. The boxed soil stack in the corner is the usual version of it upstairs, and a top that notches round one loses depth exactly where the basin wanted it. The bridge between aperture and back edge is what a notch eats. Confirm the block working hours and any porter sign-in, and have the plumber agree the waste position before we template. The person choosing the surface is not the person who will cook on it, which argues for a finish that absorbs ordinary wear rather than one that rewards careful housekeeping. Who is paying decides the material here more than anywhere else, because a vanity is small enough that an expensive stone stops being an expensive decision. Marble on a vanity marks, and that is said before it is cut.
How many joins will a Stroud Green kitchen need?
An island often runs in one piece where a wall run cannot. Join count and position are settled from the template drawing rather than improvised on the fitting day. A finished join is typically two to three millimetres, colour-matched and sanded flush. Two runs of similar length nest as a pair off one slab, and if one of them grows by a few hundred millimetres the pair stops fitting and the yield changes for both. A bathroom ordered with the kitchen is taken from the same slab run, so the two rooms match rather than nearly match. Shelves and a window board come out of the same corner of the slab.
Do you do undermounted sinks in Stroud Green?
Each cut-out is priced on its own line, so a range, a bowl and a half, a boiling tap and a drainer are four items rather than one. Undermount bowls are cut and polished in the workshop and dry-fitted to the stone on the bench before anything is loaded. Where the hob lands is set out against the units and the wall behind, not off the kitchen plan. Where the aisle is too tight the usual answer is a reduced-depth top on one side, and a 500mm run is a different cut, a different sink and a different drainer to a 600mm one. Where the kitchen swallows the whole slab there is no offcut worth having, and the vanity then has to be priced against material bought for itself. The bathroom order is cheapest while the kitchen is still open.
Is the quote a fixed price or an estimate?
Ask for the lines rather than the total. One number for a kitchen tells you nothing you can check. Material is quoted supply only and templating, fabrication and fitting sit on their own lines, so it is visible which part is stone and which is labour. The design and quotation visit is free and carries no obligation, so a figure exists before any commitment. Boxing built in plasterboard on a light frame will take no useful fixing, so nothing bears on it and the stone is carried off the carcasses either side. A wall-hung unit puts the whole weight into the wall rather than onto the floor, so what the wall is built of stops being a detail. A wall-hung unit is braced before it is asked to hold stone.
What happens if a piece will not go up the stairs?
Doorways, the newel post and the handrail usually take the room away, rather than the stairs themselves. Every piece goes in by hand and stone does not bend, so the tightest turn on the route sets the longest piece. Where there is a lift, whether it can be booked out and padded matters as much as its size. Communal stairs get boarded and the handrail padded, and we walk the route with a tape before the first piece leaves the van. What the route really decides for a bathroom is the shelving and the window board, since long thin pieces are the ones that break when they are twisted round a turn. A vanity top goes wherever a person will go.

We recently had our kitchen worktops supplied and fitted by Worktop WorX using Laurent Gold sintered stone, and we couldn’t be happier with the result. The finish, quality, and attention to detail were outstanding from start to finish. Karem was incredibly helpful throughout the whole process professional, knowledgeable, and always available to answer any questions. The new worktops have completely transformed our kitchen and look amazing. Highly recommend Worktop WorX to anyone looking for high quality kitchen worktops, bespoke workmanship, and excellent customer service.

Kareem did the countertops dur8ng my kitchen remodel, and I was so impressed that I had him back to do the laundry room as well, which tells you everything you need to know. He is an absolute gem. Shows up when he says he will (which, let’s be honest, is rarer than it should be), does beautifully work, and clearly takes real pride in what he does. The countertops look fantastic, and he even went above and beyond, using leftover quartz to create an extra counter in my bathroom. Genius. He’s kind, professional, reasonably priced, and just gets on with it. No fuss, no drama, just a job very well done. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him and will absolutely be using him again if the need arises. Happy to answer any questions.
