Ceiling beams cross the room at a height that decides where a piece can be stood on edge and where it cannot. Lengths run past what a single slab gives, so a break is designed in from the start, placed over support and kept clear of every stool position before anything is nested. A bar built as furniture is templated as furniture.

It is quoted by area like the worktop, so a long run is a material line rather than a trim. Ordered later from a different batch, the match is not reliable where the two pieces meet. Socket and switch positions have to be final before templating, because the openings are machined rather than chopped out on the wall. The floor is often flags or brick laid straight on the ground, so it is solid, uneven and not going to be levelled by chasing into it. A deep apron on the front makes the piece read heavier from a seat, and it is mitred and bonded on the bench rather than built up in the room. What the room will take decides the stool count.
