Upper Edmonton kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Floors have usually settled towards the rear, so levelling means packing the units before the stone beds down. The fitting day is planned backwards from all of it, before the first piece comes off the van. One visit, our own installers.
Kitchens are squeezed into former bedrooms or the back addition, giving awkward 1.8m to 2.4m runs with the sink under a window that no longer lines up with the units.
Fore Street is a busy bus corridor with loading bans through the day and shopfront deliveries competing for the kerb. A lot of the stock here is converted - a three-bed terrace split into two flats, or a flat over a shop on Fore Street. Landlord refits dominate, so expect worn units that will not take a heavy stone - price for re-fixing or replacing carcass rails as part of the job.
The stair from the street is narrow with a tight turn at the top, which caps piece length well below anything the run itself needs. The fitting itself is about squaring up to walls that look modern and are not: block or breeze walls with a skim that has been patched over decades, so we still dry-lay and scribe rather than trust the template edge. The slow parts are slow for a reason.
What we are usually templating in is Victorian terrace, flat above shop and post-war infill block. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our north London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
Getting stone into the room
Flats over shops are reached by a separate street door and a straight steep stair with a tight turn at the top.
The realistic answer on a main road is an early slot, a spotter on the van and pieces staged in one movement rather than several trips. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. The day is built around that window.

What gets asked for here
This is one of the three jobs that come up most here, behind worktop replacement. It is the same template visit, the same workshop and the same installers either way.

Getting stone into a Upper Edmonton kitchen
Fore Street is a busy bus corridor with loading bans through the day and shopfront deliveries competing for the kerb. Flats over shops are reached by a separate street door and a straight steep stair with a tight turn at the top.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Upper Edmonton
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Upper Edmonton?
Yes. Upper Edmonton is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are N18. It is worked on our north London run, along with the rest of Enfield. The realistic answer on a main road is an early slot, a spotter on the van and pieces staged in one movement rather than several trips. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. The day is built around that window. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Upper Edmonton change how worktop installation works?
The stair from the street is narrow with a tight turn at the top, which caps piece length well below anything the run itself needs. The fitting itself is about squaring up to walls that look modern and are not: block or breeze walls with a skim that has been patched over decades, so we still dry-lay and scribe rather than trust the template edge. The slow parts are slow for a reason. Landlord refits dominate, so expect worn units that will not take a heavy stone - price for re-fixing or replacing carcass rails as part of the job.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Upper Edmonton?
Fore Street is a busy bus corridor with loading bans through the day and shopfront deliveries competing for the kerb. Flats over shops are reached by a separate street door and a straight steep stair with a tight turn at the top. Weight tells on a staircase more than anywhere else, because there is nowhere to set a piece down mid-flight and no way to change your grip once it is moving. We walk the route with a tape and protect it end to end before the first piece is lifted. It gets checked before the first piece is lifted.
Is worktop installation common in Upper Edmonton?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Landlord work is scheduled around void periods, so the whole thing is a fixed window and the template date matters as much as the fitting date. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. The prep list is not optional. Quartz suits let property well: no sealing, no annual maintenance, and nothing an incoming tenant has to be told to look after. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. Sealed before we leave.
Why do two Upper Edmonton kitchens the same size price differently?
Two parallel runs with a walkway between them is the most efficient shape there is on a slab, because both pieces nest as straight lengths with almost no waste. A layout that has been packed and levelled run by run instead of to one datum shows as a step where two pieces meet. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
The stone carries the scribe because the wall cannot be persuaded, so back edges are cut oversize and eased in rather than dropped straight down. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. Dry-lay, mark, cut, then bond. Unlock any rear or shared path gate and clear both the hall and the back approach so we can choose the better route on the day. Access in a tenanted flat depends on the tenant, so the template and fitting dates are agreed with whoever actually holds the keys. A half-day of access is not a fitting day, and it is better to say so at booking than to find out at eleven. Protection goes down first.
