Wapping kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Open plan means long uninterrupted runs and an island in the middle of the room with every edge on show. Two to three hours on site, once the units are fitted, fixed and level. Units fitted, fixed and level first.
Warehouse loft apartments have big open volumes where the kitchen is a defined block in the middle of the floor, so you get a 3m plus run against exposed brick plus a substantial island with waterfall ends. Ceilings are high, beams are exposed and cabinetry is often bespoke, so the stone has to be set out against timber that is not straight.
Many conversions retain a small original hoist-style lift or a tight brick stair core, and buildings often require a river-side or courtyard route agreed with the porter in advance. The high street is narrow, cobbled in places and lined with tall converted warehouses with no forecourt, and parking is permit-only with very few bays.
Original brickwork is uneven by ten millimetres or more across a bay, so the back edge is scribed to the actual face rather than to a line. The scribe is taken at the exact height the stone will sit, because the brick face changes over its own height. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn.
What we are usually templating in is Victorian riverside warehouse conversion, 1980s dockside new-build and post-war estate. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered on our east London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
warehouse and wharf conversions
What gets asked for here
Honestly, this is not what we do most on this patch. Worktop fabrication, worktop design & quotation and worktop installation come up more often. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work, and nothing about how it is quoted, cut or fitted changes because of it.
warehouse and wharf conversions
Getting stone into the room
Without a bay the van ends up on a single yellow with a crew member watching it, which takes a pair of hands off the carry. The templating visit needs somewhere to stop for two or three hours, which is a different problem from unloading for twenty minutes. The templater needs a proper stop, not a pause.

The building, and what it does to the job
Exposed brick and reclaimed timber never give you a straight reference line, so the island gets set out to the floor and the perimeter gets scribed to the wall.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop templating in Wapping
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Wapping?
Yes. Wapping is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are E1W. It is worked on our east London run, along with the rest of Tower Hamlets. Without a bay the van ends up on a single yellow with a crew member watching it, which takes a pair of hands off the carry. A templater circling for a space arrives late into a slot that was already tight, and the drawing is what suffers. The templater needs a proper stop, not a pause. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Wapping change how worktop templating works?
The goods lift is generous and the flat entrance often is not, so the tightest point on the route is inside the flat rather than in the building. Exposed brick and steel is the whole job here: the brick face is not a flat plane, it moves in and out over its height and along its length, so the scribe is taken at the exact height the worktop will sit rather than off the wall generally. Two to three hours, once the units are in. Exposed brick and reclaimed timber never give you a straight reference line, so the island gets set out to the floor and the perimeter gets scribed to the wall.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Wapping?
The high street is narrow, cobbled in places and lined with tall converted warehouses with no forecourt, and parking is permit-only with very few bays. Many conversions retain a small original hoist-style lift or a tight brick stair core, and buildings often require a river-side or courtyard route agreed with the porter in advance. If a hoist is the only way in then the piece sizes are designed around the opening, and the sash or casement usually has to come out first. A template taken without walking the route produces a drawing that cuts beautifully and will not go in. The template records it along with everything else.
Is Wapping really a worktop templating area?
Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop fabrication, worktop design & quotation and worktop installation. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way here as anywhere else on the patch. In a converted house the flat entrance and the internal doorway are usually tighter than the communal stairs, and that is easy to overlook. Two to three hours on site, with the sink, tap and hob physically present. Units fitted, fixed and level first.
Why do two Wapping kitchens the same size price differently?
On a heavily veined stone the island and the run behind it are nested off the same area of slab so the movement relates across the room. A layout templated off one wall instead of one datum will not sit right once all the pieces are down together. Real angles, not plan angles. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
Where a column lands in the run the template plots its actual outline so the stone is cut to fit around it rather than stopped short and filled. It is recorded on the drawing with the run dimensions so the workshop is not guessing. Measured at worktop height, nowhere else. Units fixed and levelled, all steelwork and brick cleaned, sealed and finished, and any boarded sections completed to final thickness so the template picks up the surface the stone will actually meet. Where the owner is not local, the decisions happen remotely, so photographs and a clear itemised drawing carry more weight than a showroom visit ever would. The templater needs the sink, tap and hob on site, and a Belfast sink installed at its final height. Fitted, fixed and level, then we come.
