West Hendon kitchens

What the kitchens here are actually like

2010s-2020s regeneration towers by the reservoirVictorian and Edwardian terracepost-war blocks

Plasterboard partitions mean light scribes and clean joins, and the fabrication effort moves to the visible faces instead. The fitting day is planned backwards from all of it, before the first piece comes off the van. The route is walked before the first lift.

New waterside apartments with open-plan kitchens along one wall, typically 3m with a small peninsula, alongside older terraces on the Broadway side with narrow back kitchens that have never been extended. The new-build work is surface replacement; the terrace work is often a full refit in a very tight footprint.

These buildings have firm rules about what can be propped open, left in a lobby or carried through the residents entrance. The lift is measured before the piece is loaded, and once inside the flat the fitting is quick by comparison. That is the shape of the day.

The mix here is 2010s-2020s regeneration towers by the reservoir, Victorian and Edwardian terrace and post-war blocks. They are not interchangeable, and a worktop finds the differences quickly.

True everywhere

Worktop installation, in short

  • One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
  • Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
  • We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
  • Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.

Covered on our north London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

new-build flats and apartments

The building, and what it does to the job

Waterside blocks have long internal corridors from the lift to the flat door, so the carry inside the building is often longer than the one outside it.

The service lift's internal diagonal, which is often shorter than the longest run and forces the join position before we start.

What gets asked for here

This is one of the three jobs that come up most here, behind worktop replacement. It is the same template visit, the same workshop and the same installers either way.

Getting stone into the room

The regeneration blocks have proper service entrances and lifts but require booking and restricted loading times, while the older terraces sit on a busy A road with red route sections and no off-street parking at all.

The lift has to be booked and blanketed before anything moves, and that booking needs to cover the old tops coming out as well as the new stone going in. We walk the route with a tape and protect it end to end before the first piece is lifted. It gets checked before the first piece is lifted.

Getting stone into a West Hendon kitchen

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions

Worktop installation in West Hendon

If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.

Do you cover West Hendon?

Yes. West Hendon is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are NW9. It is worked on our north London run, along with the rest of Barnet. The realistic answer on a main road is an early slot, a spotter on the van and pieces staged in one movement rather than several trips. A van that has to move mid-fit costs the best part of an hour and takes a man off the tools to do it. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.

Does the housing in West Hendon change how worktop installation works?

A riverside block is a managed building with a booked goods lift, a loading bay and a concierge, and all three have to line up on the same day. Everything comes up in the lift, so we measure the lift car's internal diagonal before the piece is loaded, because a car that takes 2.4m on the diagonal will not take a 3m worktop no matter how you stand it. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted. Waterside blocks have long internal corridors from the lift to the flat door, so the carry inside the building is often longer than the one outside it.

How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in West Hendon?

The regeneration blocks have proper service entrances and lifts but require booking and restricted loading times, while the older terraces sit on a busy A road with red route sections and no off-street parking at all. The lift has to be booked and blanketed before anything moves, and that booking needs to cover the old tops coming out as well as the new stone going in. We walk the route with a tape and protect it end to end before the first piece is lifted. It gets checked before the first piece is lifted.

Do you do much worktop installation around West Hendon?

It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. Sealed before we leave. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. One visit, done properly.

Why do two West Hendon kitchens the same size price differently?

A galley puts the sink on one side and the hob on the other, which spreads the cut-outs across two pieces instead of weakening one. Joins are pulled with suction clamps and finished flush, then colour-matched, which is the last thing done rather than the first. Nothing is bonded until the whole run sits flat. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.

What has to be finished before you can template?

A lightweight stud partition will not carry a breakfast bar or a peninsula end, and stone finds that out faster than laminate ever did. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. Eased in, never forced. Book the service lift and loading bay with the building manager for the whole fitting window, and have the fob or key for lift override ready. A street with houses in single occupation next to the same houses cut into flats produces two completely different jobs from the same elevation. A half-day of access is not a fitting day, and it is better to say so at booking than to find out at eleven. Access for the whole slot, or a different day.
