Wood Green kitchens

What the kitchens here are actually like

Victorian terrace1930s block of flats2020s residential tower

Old plaster built up over decades makes the scribing heavy, and that time has to be in the plan rather than found on the day. Almost everything that makes a fitting day hard is a property of the building rather than of the stone. The route is walked before the first lift.

Three types side by side - Victorian terraced back-kitchens, 1930s flats with a genuine separate kitchen room of about 2.5m by 2.2m, and new towers where the kitchen is a fitted run along one wall of the living space with a stone-look island the developer priced as an upgrade. The towers push a lot of like-for-like replacement work.

The High Road and the shopping city dominate the centre, with servicing yards, timed access and no kerbside space. Tower blocks need a booked delivery slot and a residents' lift with a weight limit; some will only take deliveries through a basement car park with a 2.1m height restriction.

Balcony access and long communal corridors are often the carry route, and both are narrower than they look with a piece on edge. This is the most managed day we do, with a hard finish time set by the block rather than by the work. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted.

What turns up on the job sheets is Victorian terrace, 1930s block of flats and 2020s residential tower. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.

True everywhere

Worktop installation, in short

  • One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
  • Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
  • We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
  • Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.

Covered on our north London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Victorian and Edwardian terraces

Getting stone into the room

Bay bookings are usually an hour or two, which is fine for unloading and no use at all as a place to leave the van for a day. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. It is why the arrival time is what it is.

What gets asked for here

Second or third on the list around here, after worktop replacement. Same visit, same bench, same crew, same lead time.

Victorian and Edwardian terraces

The building, and what it does to the job

The back addition is a narrow two-storey outrigger with a single external wall, and the kitchen galley runs the length of it. The day is planned backwards from the hall, and the scribing takes longer than the carry. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted.

Basement car park headroom is the killer here - a Luton will not get in, so slabs come off a smaller vehicle or get walked from the street.

Access

Getting stone into a Wood Green kitchen

The High Road and the shopping city dominate the centre, with servicing yards, timed access and no kerbside space. Tower blocks need a booked delivery slot and a residents' lift with a weight limit; some will only take deliveries through a basement car park with a 2.1m height restriction.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions

Worktop installation in Wood Green

If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.

Do you cover Wood Green?

Yes. Wood Green is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are N22. It is worked on our north London run, along with the rest of Haringey. Bay bookings are usually an hour or two, which is fine for unloading and no use at all as a place to leave the van for a day. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.

Does the housing in Wood Green change how worktop installation works?

Inter-war purpose-built blocks have curved external walls and steel windows, so a run along an outside wall is following a genuine curve rather than a bow. The porter has to be booked, the goods lift protected with the block's own blankets or our own boards, and communal carpet and stair runners covered from the entrance to the flat door before a single piece moves. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted. Basement car park headroom is the killer here - a Luton will not get in, so slabs come off a smaller vehicle or get walked from the street.

How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Wood Green?

The High Road and the shopping city dominate the centre, with servicing yards, timed access and no kerbside space. Tower blocks need a booked delivery slot and a residents' lift with a weight limit; some will only take deliveries through a basement car park with a 2.1m height restriction. A car that takes 2.4m on the diagonal will not take a three-metre worktop however it is stood, and there is no trimming it on the landing. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. It gets checked before the first piece is lifted.

Is worktop installation common in Wood Green?

It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Landlord work is scheduled around void periods, so the whole thing is a fixed window and the template date matters as much as the fitting date. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. One visit, done properly. Quartz suits let property well: no sealing, no annual maintenance, and nothing an incoming tenant has to be told to look after. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. The prep list is not optional.

Why do two Wood Green kitchens the same size price differently?

Two parallel runs with a walkway between them is the most efficient shape there is on a slab, because both pieces nest as straight lengths with almost no waste. A layout that has been packed and levelled run by run instead of to one datum shows as a step where two pieces meet. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.

What has to be finished before you can template?

Boxing is rarely the same depth at worktop height as it is at floor level, so measuring it low down is the usual reason a top will not sit back. On the day it means dry-laying, marking, and cutting the scribe on site before anything is bonded. Eased in, never forced. Have the works booking confirmed with the managing agent or porter in advance, with the lift slot and any parking permit or bay suspension in place. A street with houses in single occupation next to the same houses cut into flats produces two completely different jobs from the same elevation. The fitting day is arranged with whoever can actually give us access for the whole slot. Protection goes down first.
