Yes. Blackwall is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are E14. It is worked on our east London run, along with the rest of Tower Hamlets. Time-limited bays are camera-enforced across a lot of managed estates, so the unload runs to the clock and the van moves off afterwards. A Belfast or butler sink has to be installed and at its final height before the template, because the stone is cut to sit on it. A U puts the sink in one leg, the hob in another and any drainer grooves in whatever is left, which spreads the cut-outs about but does not reduce the machining time. An external corner on a counter is seen from both sides at once, so it is mitred rather than butted and the pattern is carried round it. A shallow shelf still needs a support run of its own.

Upkeep is settled when the slab is chosen, since it belongs to the material rather than the fabrication. Quartz carries resin, so a hot pan wants a trivet, while granite and sintered stone will take one without complaint. Topping a seal up is a wipe-on job with a cloth. Access is a question about the plot rather than the house: a narrow frontage between older buildings with nowhere obvious to stand a van. The lobby was finished by the developer, so the counter is scribed to stone, terrazzo or a boarded wall somebody else laid, and that face is measured rather than assumed square. A converted house wants a counter that reads as furniture.

Material is quoted supply only and templating, fabrication and fitting sit on their own lines, so it is visible which part is stone and which is labour. Every run, cut-out, edge, join and groove set is a line, which is what makes it comparable with anyone else’s. No installed price per square metre is published, because it is not a real number. A partition that gives when you lean on it will give under someone sitting at an overhang, and a bonded mitre nearby is where that movement shows first. Where the floor falls away across a lobby the carcass is packed level first, because the top cannot correct anything sitting under it. Where the plaster bows, the counter is drawn away from it.
