Chessington kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Solid brick with a sand and cement render is firm to work against and reliably out of plumb across the length of a run. Two kitchens of the same floor area price very differently for exactly these reasons, and the quote should show you which one you have. That is the whole of the pricing argument.
Suburban semis and 1980s closes with rectangular kitchen-diners, most often reworked as a U with runs of 3m, 2.4m and 1.8m, or a straight run plus a peninsula facing a dining table - islands appear only in the wider detached houses.
The classic arrangement is the original back room with a later extension bolted onto it, so the kitchen is two ages of building in one room. These are typically two runs and a return, often into a rear extension, and the return piece is the awkward one, short, wide and rarely nesting well against the long pieces on the slab, so slab yield rather than total area is what pushes the material line up. That is what the itemised lines are for.
What we are usually templating in is 1930s semi, 1950s and 1960s estate housing, 1980s close and modern detached. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Worktop design and quotation, in short
- Material is £110–£550/m² supply. That is the slab only.
- Templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted as their own lines.
- No installed price per square metre is published, because it is not a real number.
- Nothing is payable until we template.
Covered on our south west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
1930s and inter-war semis
Getting stone into the room
Wide estate roads, driveways and garages everywhere, and space to work off the van tailgate at the door; some of the newer closes have shared private drives with turning heads that get blocked by residents' cars.
Off-street parking means the van stays put all day, so tools, packers and the offcut we would rather have than not are all within reach. It sits in the fitting line as time on site rather than as anything to do with the stone. It is one line among the others, and it is honest.

The building, and what it does to the job
Plenty of room to work here, so this is where a single long 3.6m piece with an undermount sink is actually deliverable in one go.

Getting stone into a Chessington kitchen
Wide estate roads, driveways and garages everywhere, and space to work off the van tailgate at the door; some of the newer closes have shared private drives with turning heads that get blocked by residents' cars.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop design & quotation in Chessington
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Chessington, or just list it?
Yes. Chessington is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are KT9. It is worked on our south west London run, along with the rest of Kingston upon Thames. Off-street parking means the van stays put all day, so tools, packers and the offcut we would rather have than not are all within reach. It sits in the fitting line as time on site rather than as anything to do with the stone. It is one line among the others, and it is honest. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop design & quotation in Chessington?
The classic arrangement is the original back room with a later extension bolted onto it, so the kitchen is two ages of building in one room. These are typically two runs and a return, often into a rear extension, and the return piece is the awkward one, short, wide and rarely nesting well against the long pieces on the slab, so slab yield rather than total area is what pushes the material line up. Priced from the building, not from a rate card. Plenty of room to work here, so this is where a single long 3.6m piece with an undermount sink is actually deliverable in one go.
Is access a problem in Chessington?
Wide estate roads, driveways and garages everywhere, and space to work off the van tailgate at the door; some of the newer closes have shared private drives with turning heads that get blocked by residents' cars. Where the van stands level with the front of the house a piece gets handled twice instead of five times, and stone breaks on handling rather than on the road. We price the carry from what you tell us about the route, so photographs of the approach are worth more to us than a floor plan. It appears as its own line rather than buried in a rate.
Is worktop design & quotation common in Chessington?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop installation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. That changes what the quote should be compared against, because the shape of the job is not the same as a single family kitchen. Nothing payable until we template. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. Comparing quotes only works when they itemise the same things, and this is where the differences usually hide. Material is the slab only, and it says so.
What decides the price of a worktop in Chessington?
The catch with a galley is that both runs are seen end-on from the doorway, so any difference in overhang between the two reads immediately. Each run is priced on its own line against the supply rate, with the join count and the reason for each join stated. Shape first, area second. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
Where a breast interrupts a long wall the join can often go there, so it reads as a natural break rather than a line in the middle of a worktop. Send photographs of every corner of the room and it gets priced properly first time. Priced as fabrication, not as area. Send the extension drawing or the unit layout with the actual appliance model numbers, since cut-out sizes come from the appliance, not the cabinet. Where a landlord or housing provider is involved there is a specification to meet and a process to follow, and both are settled before a date is offered. The quote is written so it can be read by whoever is paying rather than only by whoever is standing in the kitchen. Nothing payable until template.
