Chessington kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
These kitchens have usually been retiled twice and knocked through once, and both of those leave marks the worktop has to deal with. Pieces are cut, mitred, machined and dry-assembled on the bench before anything is loaded onto a van. The drawing decides it before the saw does.
Suburban semis and 1980s closes with rectangular kitchen-diners, most often reworked as a U with runs of 3m, 2.4m and 1.8m, or a straight run plus a peninsula facing a dining table - islands appear only in the wider detached houses.
The chimney breast in the corner has usually been left in place, so the run gains a return and two scribed ends. Where a full length can come down the side and in at the back, the nest follows the slab instead of the building. The bench proves it before the van moves.
What turns up on the job sheets is 1930s semi, 1950s and 1960s estate housing, 1980s close and modern detached. The differences between them show up at template, not at enquiry.
True everywhere
Worktop fabrication, in short
- Slabs come in finite sizes, so a long run needs a join.
- Joins sit over a cabinet gable, never spanning a gap or running through a cut-out.
- A finished join is typically 2–3mm, colour-matched and sanded flush.
- Your sink and hob are dry-fitted on the bench before dispatch.
Covered on our south west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
Managed stock usually comes with its own rules about working hours, waste, and who is allowed on site. The workshop works from the approved drawing, so whoever signs it off is signing off the join positions too. Changes cost a piece, not a tweak.
This is not the local speciality and there is no point saying otherwise: worktop installation, worktop design & quotation and worktop replacement is what the housing here actually asks for. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way regardless.
1930s and inter-war semis
The building, and what it does to the job
Plenty of room to work here, so this is where a single long 3.6m piece with an undermount sink is actually deliverable in one go.
1930s and inter-war semis
Getting stone into the room
Wide estate roads, driveways and garages everywhere, and space to work off the van tailgate at the door; some of the newer closes have shared private drives with turning heads that get blocked by residents' cars.
1930s and inter-war semis
True everywhere, stated once
Fabrication is where access quietly becomes a design decision. How the stone reaches the room decides how big each piece can be, and therefore how many joins the kitchen ends up with.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Chessington on your patch?
Yes. Chessington is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are KT9. It is worked on our south west London run, along with the rest of Kingston upon Thames. Gravel and block paving both look like hard standing and neither takes a loaded trolley, so the run from tail lift to door gets boarded. Pieces are loaded in reverse fitting order so the first thing off the van is the first thing that goes down. That is the last thing settled before dispatch. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop fabrication in Chessington be any different from anywhere else?
The chimney breast in the corner has usually been left in place, so the run gains a return and two scribed ends. Where a full length can come down the side and in at the back, the nest follows the slab instead of the building. The bench proves it before the van moves. Plenty of room to work here, so this is where a single long 3.6m piece with an undermount sink is actually deliverable in one go.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Chessington?
Wide estate roads, driveways and garages everywhere, and space to work off the van tailgate at the door; some of the newer closes have shared private drives with turning heads that get blocked by residents' cars. The van gets close to the door and the stone comes off the tail lift onto a trolley, which is about the shortest carry we ever get. So the nesting is worked to the measured route first and to the slab second. The drawing carries that decision through to the saw.
Is Chessington really a worktop fabrication area?
Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop installation, worktop design & quotation and worktop replacement. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way here as anywhere else on the patch. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. Cutting several kitchens from different slabs and calling them matched is where firms get caught out. Same slab run, or it is not a match. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. Pieces are dry-assembled and checked on the bench before anything is loaded. Nested for the job in front of us.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
Two parallel runs with a walkway between them is the most efficient shape there is on a slab, because both pieces nest as straight lengths with almost no waste. A join that lands in the wrong place cannot be moved once the cut-outs are machined, so it is settled on the drawing. That is nested before any glass goes on the saw. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Chessington?
Alcove pieces get cut oversize on both scribe edges, with the true wall angles carried on the template drawing rather than assumed. Cut it square where it should be radiused and the piece will fail on the lift, not in the kitchen. The drawing decides it, not the fitter. The peninsula end detail needs deciding up front - square edge, mitred apron down the end, or a full waterfall - because a waterfall end has to be cut in sequence off the same part of the slab as the top. Managed stock usually comes with its own rules about working hours, waste, and who is allowed on site. The workshop works from the approved drawing, so whoever signs it off is signing off the join positions too. Changes cost a piece, not a tweak.
