A front drive is the best thing that can happen to a fitting day, because the tail lift comes down within a few metres of the door and nothing is on a clock. Walls are dense block or in-situ concrete with a bonded plaster, so the bottom course of tiles brings plaster with it when the old top comes off. Kitchens in this stock are usually compact and reasonably square, so total area is modest, but the fixed lines do not shrink with it. That is what the itemised lines are for. Ex-council houses here often have out-of-level solid floors, so the base units need shimming across the run before a stone top will sit without rocking.

Quiet estate roads off the Hook Rise corridor with driveways and garages, and enough width to turn a van; the main hold-up is the A3 junction traffic rather than anything on site. A side gate and a back door mean the stone never goes through the house at all, which keeps the dust and most of the risk outside. The free end is what needs deciding early: square edge, mitred apron down the end, or a full waterfall to the floor, and a waterfall is cut in sequence off the same part of the slab. Each run is priced on its own line against the supply rate, with the join count and the reason for each join stated. No installed rate per square metre, because it is not a real number. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.

Level has to hold across the whole room rather than along one wall, or a floor that falls end to end shows as a step where two pieces meet. This is the item most often left out of a cheaper quote, and it comes back as a variation once the templater has been. Priced as fabrication, not as area.
