Hackney Central kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
A hundred and forty years of alterations sit under the current kitchen, and the worktop is what has to sit flat on top of all of it. The fitting day is planned backwards from all of it, before the first piece comes off the van. One visit, our own installers.
A mix of terraces converted to flats, estate blocks and recent apartments above the town centre, so older stock gives rear-addition kitchens of about 3m while new blocks are open-plan with a 3m run and a peninsula.
Camera-enforced filters catch more fitters here than anything else, so drive the van route on the ground beforehand and build the longer legal approach into the day. Mare Street has bus lanes and loading restrictions, and the surrounding grid is filtered with several streets closed to through traffic by camera-enforced gates. The Georgian survivors near the churchyard have small original rooms with layouts that cannot be moved.
A villa cut into flats leaves kitchens in rooms that were never kitchens, with services run to wherever they could physically be made to reach. The day is planned backwards from the hall. The slow parts are slow for a reason.
What we are usually templating in is Victorian terrace, Georgian survivor, post-war estate and new-build apartment. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our east London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
Conversions put kitchens where the services could be made to reach rather than where they belong, so runs are short and interrupted. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. The prep list is not optional.
This is one of the three jobs that come up most here, behind worktop replacement. It is the same template visit, the same workshop and the same installers either way.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
The building, and what it does to the job
The hallway turn and the door width, which cap the longest single piece we can physically get to the kitchen regardless of what the run measures.

Getting stone into the room
New blocks have service lifts and booked bays, while the older terraces mean a shared hall and a first-floor turn.

Getting stone into a Hackney Central kitchen

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Hackney Central
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Hackney Central?
Yes. Hackney Central is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are E8, E9. It is worked on our east London run, along with the rest of Hackney. Where the bay sits some distance from the core, the carry across the car park is the longest leg of the day and gets boarded and lit. A van that has to move mid-fit costs the best part of an hour and takes a man off the tools to do it. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Hackney Central change how worktop installation works?
A villa cut into flats leaves kitchens in rooms that were never kitchens, with services run to wherever they could physically be made to reach. We measure the front door, the hall width and the turn into the kitchen before anything comes off the van, because a 3m piece has to swing through that corner on edge and stone does not bend to help you. That is the shape of the day. Camera-enforced filters catch more fitters here than anything else, so drive the van route on the ground beforehand and build the longer legal approach into the day.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Hackney Central?
Mare Street has bus lanes and loading restrictions, and the surrounding grid is filtered with several streets closed to through traffic by camera-enforced gates. New blocks have service lifts and booked bays, while the older terraces mean a shared hall and a first-floor turn. Where the lift will not take the longest run we design a join in rather than gamble, because a piece that will not go up has to go back on the van. Finding it out on the morning costs the whole slot, because there is no second route to fall back on. That is what the morning is planned around.
Is worktop installation common in Hackney Central?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Conversions put kitchens where the services could be made to reach rather than where they belong, so runs are short and interrupted. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. The prep list is not optional. In a converted house the flat entrance and the internal doorway are usually tighter than the communal stairs, and that is easy to overlook. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. One visit, done properly.
Why do two Hackney Central kitchens the same size price differently?
Because a peninsula is seen from both sides, the underside of any overhang gets the same edge treatment as the top, which is easy to leave out of a spec. On the day that means dry-laying the whole layout first and only then pulling and bonding the joins. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
A run can measure dead right at both ends and still belly out in the middle, which only appears once the template plots the intermediate points. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. Dry-lay, mark, cut, then bond. Clear the full hall and stairs route of furniture, bikes, coats and stair-gates, and keep the front door propped and unobstructed for the carry. A street with houses in single occupation next to the same houses cut into flats produces two completely different jobs from the same elevation. The fitting day is arranged with whoever can actually give us access for the whole slot. Protection goes down first.
