Harrow Weald kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Two runs and a return into a rear extension is the pattern, and the return is the piece that never nests neatly on a slab. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is why the visit happens after the units are in and not before. Sink, tap and hob on site, not on order.
Rear extensions with roof lights are common on the detached stock and produce runs over 4m.
The ground rises steadily towards the common, so driveways slope and some houses sit well above road level behind steps and retaining walls. Interwar semis on the lower slopes and larger detached houses climbing towards the common, where kitchens are bigger and the brief typically includes an island with seating plus a separate utility.
A detached house of this age has a drive, a side path and a back door, so access is rarely the constraint and the design can follow the room. The sill height over the sink is settled on site, because there is often less clearance than an upstand is tall. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn.
The stock behind these kitchens runs to 1930s semi, 1930s detached and large Victorian house on the ridge. They are not interchangeable, and a worktop finds the differences quickly.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered on our north west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
1930s and inter-war semis
The shape of the run
Seating overhangs past roughly 300mm will not carry on the carcass alone, so flat steel bar or a plywood substrate has to be built into the units first. A layout templated off one wall instead of one datum will not sit right once all the pieces are down together. One datum for the whole room.

Getting stone into the room
Vehicle access is good but the last few metres are often uphill on a gradient.
1930s and inter-war semis
The building, and what it does to the job
Sloping drives and stepped approaches make the trolley useless, so plan a straight lift-and-carry with enough hands rather than trying to wheel a slab uphill.

What gets asked for here
It is on the shortlist for this patch rather than at the top of it, because worktop installation comes up more often. Nothing about the process differs between the two.

Getting stone into a Harrow Weald kitchen

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop templating in Harrow Weald
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Harrow Weald on your patch?
Yes. Harrow Weald is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are HA3. It is worked on our north west London run, along with the rest of Harrow. Off-street parking means the van stays put all day, so tools, packers and the offcut we would rather have than not are all within reach. The templating visit needs somewhere to stop for two or three hours, which is a different problem from unloading for twenty minutes. It goes on the job sheet for the fitting crew. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop templating in Harrow Weald be any different from anywhere else?
The kitchen is usually a rear room extended into the garden, with the original external wall now standing inside the run. The typical 1930s kitchen sits at the back with a low window over the sink run, so the template records the exact sill height above the units to settle whether an upstand fits or the stone has to die into a window board. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn. Sloping drives and stepped approaches make the trolley useless, so plan a straight lift-and-carry with enough hands rather than trying to wheel a slab uphill.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Harrow Weald?
The ground rises steadily towards the common, so driveways slope and some houses sit well above road level behind steps and retaining walls. Vehicle access is good but the last few metres are often uphill on a gradient. Piece length is set by the internal diagonal of the lift car, not by the length of the slab. The templater measures that route on the same visit, so the drawing leaves site already knowing the maximum piece. It goes on the drawing with the run dimensions.
Do you do much worktop templating around Harrow Weald?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop installation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. The template visit is booked once the units are genuinely in, not when they are nearly in. Units fitted, fixed and level first. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. Two to three hours on site, with the sink, tap and hob physically present. Appliances on site, not on order.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
An island is a single visible piece with four finished edges and no wall to hide against, so it is the piece the whole kitchen is judged on. The template records every angle in that shape as it actually is rather than as the plan drew it. One datum for the whole room. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Harrow Weald?
A low sill over the sink run is what decides between an upstand and stone dying into a window board, and there is often less clearance than an upstand is tall. One measurement never describes it, which is why a tape reading taken before the visit rarely matches the template. Measured at worktop height, nowhere else. All base units in, including anything standing on the later extension slab, walls skimmed to final thickness, and the sink, tap and hob delivered so cut-outs and tap centres are set from the actual items. Where someone is living in the house through the work, the strip-out and the fit are planned so the kitchen is out of use for a day and not a week. A template booked hopefully around another trade is the commonest cause of a wasted visit. Fitted, fixed and level, then we come.
