Wealdstone kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Nothing in a house of this age is square, and the kitchen is usually the part that has been altered most often. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is why the visit happens after the units are in and not before. The room as it is, to the millimetre.
The terraces get replacement tops in the existing footprint; the new flats get upgrades from builder-grade laminate.
In the small terraces a 600mm deep top will not clear the back door swing, so check whether the door needs rehanging before the stone arrives. Terraced streets with no drives and heavy on-street parking near the High Street, and new blocks with underground parking, height barriers and booked goods lifts. Two completely different loading problems within a few hundred metres. Small Victorian and interwar terraces with rear kitchens barely 2.2m wide, and a large body of new apartments built on the old Kodak and industrial land where kitchens are open-plan single walls with an integrated appliance stack.
A small room puts the sink, hob and tap cut-outs close together on one short length, and the bridge of stone left between them decides whether it can be cut in one piece. Alcoves either side of the breast are rarely the same width and rarely parallel, so each one is templated as its own piece with its own scribe. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
What turns up on the job sheets is Victorian workers' terrace, 1930s terrace and recent flats on former industrial land. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered on our north west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
What gets asked for here
It is on the shortlist for this patch rather than at the top of it, because worktop replacement comes up more often. Nothing about the process differs between the two.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
The building, and what it does to the job
Boxing is rarely the same depth at worktop height as it is at floor level, so measuring it low down is the usual reason a top will not sit back. One measurement never describes it, which is why a tape reading taken before the visit rarely matches the template. That is why the visit takes two or three hours.

Getting stone into a Wealdstone kitchen
Terraced streets with no drives and heavy on-street parking near the High Street, and new blocks with underground parking, height barriers and booked goods lifts. Two completely different loading problems within a few hundred metres.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop templating in Wealdstone
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Wealdstone on your patch?
Yes. Wealdstone is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are HA3. It is worked on our north west London run, along with the rest of Harrow. On a street with no restrictions the constraint is other residents rather than a warden, so it is worth putting a cone or a car out early. The templating visit needs somewhere to stop for two or three hours, which is a different problem from unloading for twenty minutes. It goes on the job sheet for the fitting crew. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop templating in Wealdstone be any different from anywhere else?
A small room puts the sink, hob and tap cut-outs close together on one short length, and the bridge of stone left between them decides whether it can be cut in one piece. The template plots the bow along the back of the run, which is why a tape reading taken beforehand never matches. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn. In the small terraces a 600mm deep top will not clear the back door swing, so check whether the door needs rehanging before the stone arrives.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Wealdstone?
Terraced streets with no drives and heavy on-street parking near the High Street, and new blocks with underground parking, height barriers and booked goods lifts. Two completely different loading problems within a few hundred metres. The lift has to be booked and blanketed before anything moves, and that booking needs to cover the old tops coming out as well as the new stone going in. The templater measures that route on the same visit, so the drawing leaves site already knowing the maximum piece. It goes on the drawing with the run dimensions.
Is worktop templating common in Wealdstone?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. Two to three hours on site, with the sink, tap and hob physically present. Units fitted, fixed and level first.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
A galley puts the sink on one side and the hob on the other, which spreads the cut-outs across two pieces instead of weakening one. The template records every angle in that shape as it actually is rather than as the plan drew it. Real angles, not plan angles. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Wealdstone?
Boxing is rarely the same depth at worktop height as it is at floor level, so measuring it low down is the usual reason a top will not sit back. One measurement never describes it, which is why a tape reading taken before the visit rarely matches the template. That is why the visit takes two or three hours. Units fixed and packed level over the sloping floor, walls replastered and dry at their final thickness (tiling and splashbacks go on after the worktop, never before), and the sink, tap and hob physically on site, with a Belfast sink built in and set at its finished height. A street with houses in single occupation next to the same houses cut into flats produces two completely different jobs from the same elevation. The template happens when the units are in, fixed and level, whoever is fitting them. Fitted, fixed and level, then we come.
