Small variation is taken up by packing under the top on the fitting day. Level is checked at the template, which is the point of measuring in the room rather than off a drawing. Stone does not flex, so a run that rocks on its carcasses rocks just as badly once it is stone. Window boards and cills stand proud of the plaster, so the back edge of the top has to be plotted to where the units actually sit rather than to the wall. The measurement that governs everything here is the gangway, because it caps the diameter before anybody has chosen a colour. A column in the room is designed around, not cut around.
