Heston kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Two runs and a return into a rear extension is the pattern, and the return is the piece that never nests neatly on a slab. Protection down, dry-lay, scribe, then bond: the order matters more in a difficult room than an easy one. The route is walked before the first lift.
Extensively extended semis and detached houses with large open kitchens, a big island, two sinks and frequently a separate rear prep kitchen kept for heavy cooking so the main kitchen stays presentable.
The second prep kitchen is a genuine spec here, so price two templates and expect two different materials rather than one continuous order. Wide roads, driveways almost universal, and the A4 with M4 Junction 3 on the doorstep. The only obstacle is that the drives are usually full of cars.
A detached house of this age has a drive, a side path and a back door, so access is rarely the constraint and the design can follow the room. The fitting itself is slower than the carry: original plaster on the party wall and around the old chimney breast is rarely square to the run, so back scribes get cut on site, and where a return wraps into a breast recess we template that shoulder tight and ease it in. That is the shape of the day.
On these streets the housing is 1930s semi, postwar detached, heavily extended family house and recent detached infill. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
1930s and inter-war semis
Getting stone into the room
A front drive is the best thing that can happen to a fitting day, because the tail lift comes down within a few metres of the door and nothing is on a clock. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. We would rather ask than guess.

What gets asked for here
This is one of the three jobs that come up most here, behind worktop design & quotation. It is the same template visit, the same workshop and the same installers either way.

Getting stone into a Heston kitchen

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Heston
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Heston?
Yes. Heston is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are TW5. It is worked on our west London run, along with the rest of Hounslow. A front drive is the best thing that can happen to a fitting day, because the tail lift comes down within a few metres of the door and nothing is on a clock. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. We would rather ask than guess. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Heston change how worktop installation works?
The kitchen is usually a rear room extended into the garden, with the original external wall now standing inside the run. Access is usually the easy part here, as most of these have a side gate and a back door straight into the kitchen, so we carry down the side alley rather than through the house and keep the mess outside. The slow parts are slow for a reason. The second prep kitchen is a genuine spec here, so price two templates and expect two different materials rather than one continuous order.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Heston?
Wide roads, driveways almost universal, and the A4 with M4 Junction 3 on the doorstep. The only obstacle is that the drives are usually full of cars. Even an easy kerbside carry wants the pavement clear at the tail lift, because a three-metre piece on edge has a swing radius nobody expects until it is swinging. Finding it out on the morning costs the whole slot, because there is no second route to fall back on. That is what the morning is planned around.
Is worktop installation common in Heston?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop design & quotation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. A second kitchen or a kitchenette in an annexe is a small job with the same fixed template, fabrication and fitting lines as a large one. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. The prep list is not optional. Where an annexe has been built or converted, its floor and its walls are newer than the main house and behave differently under the same run. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. Sealed before we leave.
Why do two Heston kitchens the same size price differently?
An island is a single visible piece with four finished edges and no wall to hide against, so it is the piece the whole kitchen is judged on. On the day that means dry-laying the whole layout first and only then pulling and bonding the joins. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
Alcove pieces get cut oversize on both scribe edges, with the true wall angles carried on the template drawing rather than assumed. Rushing that is what leaves a gap you look at every morning for fifteen years. Dry-lay, mark, cut, then bond. Unlock and clear the side gate and back door, and move bins, planters and washing lines out of the alley run. An owner living in the house makes the decisions and lives with them, so the specification tends to go towards the material rather than towards the lowest total. The fitting day is arranged with whoever can actually give us access for the whole slot. Protection goes down first.
