Hillingdon kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
A side passage and a back door mean the stone rarely has to come through the house, which changes the job more than most people expect. Protection down, dry-lay, scribe, then bond: the order matters more in a difficult room than an easy one. The route is walked before the first lift.
Broad avenues, drives everywhere and quick access from the A40. The A4020 Uxbridge Road is the only real delay on the way in. The recurring job is the garage converted into a utility or boot room, which needs a matching secondary run alongside the main kitchen. Classic Metroland semis with a rear kitchen and an attached side garage.
A detached house of this age has a drive, a side path and a back door, so access is rarely the constraint and the design can follow the room. The carry is the easy part; the plaster around the old breast and the packing over a moved floor are not. That is the shape of the day.
The mix here is 1930s Metroland semi, interwar detached and Hillingdon Village older stock. A quote that ignores which one you have is guessing.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

The building, and what it does to the job
Garage conversions need a second smaller top in the same material, so order it with the kitchen or the batch numbers will not match.
The side gate width and any step or drain cover in the alley, which decide whether we can carry long pieces flat down the side instead of through the front.

What gets asked for here
A licensed shared house has fire-door and escape-route rules that decide how and when stone can be carried through the common parts. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. One visit, done properly.
The research on this patch puts this at the top of the list, above worktop replacement and worktop fabrication.

True everywhere, stated once
Installation is the day the templating either pays off or does not. Almost everything that makes it hard is a property of the building rather than the stone.
Access
Getting stone into a Hillingdon kitchen
Broad avenues, drives everywhere and quick access from the A40. The A4020 Uxbridge Road is the only real delay on the way in.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.
3–7 working days
From template to fitted, working days from template. The same on this patch as every other.

Questions
Worktop installation in Hillingdon
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Hillingdon?
Yes. Hillingdon is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are UB10. It is worked on our west London run, along with the rest of Hillingdon. A drive that shelves towards the house needs the van chocked and the trolley controlled, since a loaded A-frame gathers speed quickly on a slope. The fitting slot is set around it, which is why we ask about it when the date is booked and not before we leave the yard. We would rather ask than guess. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Hillingdon change how worktop installation works?
The kitchen is usually a rear room extended into the garden, with the original external wall now standing inside the run. The fitting itself is slower than the carry: original plaster on the party wall and around the old chimney breast is rarely square to the run, so back scribes get cut on site, and where a return wraps into a breast recess we template that shoulder tight and ease it in. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted. Garage conversions need a second smaller top in the same material, so order it with the kitchen or the batch numbers will not match.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Hillingdon?
Broad avenues, drives everywhere and quick access from the A40. The A4020 Uxbridge Road is the only real delay on the way in. Even an easy kerbside carry wants the pavement clear at the tail lift, because a three-metre piece on edge has a swing radius nobody expects until it is swinging. Finding it out on the morning costs the whole slot, because there is no second route to fall back on. None of it is worked out on the doorstep.
Is Hillingdon mostly worktop installation work for you?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop replacement and worktop fabrication. A licensed shared house has fire-door and escape-route rules that decide how and when stone can be carried through the common parts. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. One visit, done properly. Where a single building holds several small kitchens, the work arrives as one job rather than four, and it should be cut off the same slab run so the batches genuinely match. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. The prep list is not optional.
Why do two Hillingdon kitchens the same size price differently?
Two parallel runs with a walkway between them is the most efficient shape there is on a slab, because both pieces nest as straight lengths with almost no waste. A layout that has been packed and levelled run by run instead of to one datum shows as a step where two pieces meet. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
Where a breast interrupts a long wall the join can often go there, so it reads as a natural break rather than a line in the middle of a worktop. On the day it means dry-laying, marking, and cutting the scribe on site before anything is bonded. Dry-lay, mark, cut, then bond. Unlock and clear the side gate and back door, and move bins, planters and washing lines out of the alley run. An owner living in the house makes the decisions and lives with them, so the specification tends to go towards the material rather than towards the lowest total. A half-day of access is not a fitting day, and it is better to say so at booking than to find out at eleven. Protection goes down first.
