Worktop templating in Myatt's Fields
A digital template plotting the room as it really is, taken once your units are fitted, fixed and level.
Myatt's Fields kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Kitchens in this stock are compact and reasonably square, which makes the fixed lines a larger share of the total than the material is. The template records what the building actually did, not what the plan intended, and the gap between those two is what this visit is for. Units fitted, fixed and level first.
Victorian terraces around the park have narrow rear additions where the kitchen stays a galley of about 2m wide, with the option of opening into the rear reception to gain a return. Rebuilt estate housing nearby has contemporary kitchens sized to modern regulations with an island only in the larger family units.
In the narrow rear additions there is not enough width to swing a 600mm top into place flat, so it comes in on edge and gets lowered between the wall and the units.
Walls are dense block or in-situ concrete with a bonded plaster, so the bottom course of tiles brings plaster with it when the old top comes off. Concrete and dense block walls in ex-council stock cannot be chased back or packed out to suit, so the template takes the wall exactly as it is and the stone carries the scribe. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn.
On these streets the housing is Victorian terrace, Rebuilt estate housing and Interwar block. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered from the New Malden patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
Where a landlord or housing provider is involved there is a specification to meet and a process to follow, and both are settled before a date is offered. The templater needs the sink, tap and hob on site, and a Belfast sink installed at its final height. No stone is cut from a plan.
This is one of the three jobs that come up most here, behind worktop replacement. It is the same template visit, the same workshop and the same installers either way.

Getting stone into the room
Streets around the park are quiet but tightly parked and permit-controlled, and several are one-way, so the approach matters. Terraced front doors are close to the pavement with a short path and a step up.

Questions
Worktop templating in Myatt's Fields
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Myatt's Fields, or just list it?
Yes. Myatt's Fields is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SE5, SW9. It is run from the New Malden side, covering South West London & Surrey. Without a bay the van ends up on a single yellow with a crew member watching it, which takes a pair of hands off the carry. A templater circling for a space arrives late into a slot that was already tight, and the drawing is what suffers. Two hours is the realistic figure. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop templating in Myatt's Fields?
An ex-council house is solidly built to a standard plan, with the kitchen at the rear and a back door next to it. Unit height is the other issue: legs sit on an uneven screed or hard concrete with no give, so the laser reads the top of every carcass rather than assuming they share a height. Two to three hours, once the units are in. In the narrow rear additions there is not enough width to swing a 600mm top into place flat, so it comes in on edge and gets lowered between the wall and the units.
Is access a problem in Myatt's Fields?
Streets around the park are quiet but tightly parked and permit-controlled, and several are one-way, so the approach matters. Terraced front doors are close to the pavement with a short path and a step up. Everything comes through the front door and down the hall, so the tightest point on the route is usually the newel post at the foot of the stairs. Door widths, turn diagonals and any change of level are recorded on the drawing alongside the run dimensions. The laser records it along with everything else. Is worktop templating common in Myatt's Fields?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Where kitchens turn over between tenancies the priority is a surface that survives a decade of being treated as a chopping board. The template visit is booked once the units are genuinely in, not when they are nearly in. Units fitted, fixed and level first. Where kitchens turn over between tenancies the priority is a surface that survives a decade of being treated as a chopping board. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is inconvenient exactly when a programme is tight. The room as it is, not as it was drawn.
What decides the price of a worktop in Myatt's Fields?
If the island is a few hundred millimetres longer than the usable length of a slab, a second slab gets bought to gain that overhang, and the whole slab is paid for rather than the part used. The template records every angle in that shape as it actually is rather than as the plan drew it. One datum for the whole room. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
Floors settle, and once base units are packed and levelled properly the stone sits true while everything else in the room admits it is not. It is recorded on the drawing with the run dimensions so the workshop is not guessing. Measured at worktop height, nowhere else. Every base unit fixed to the wall, packed and levelled with the laser, and any dry-lining or patching completed - the template reads the wall face it is given, so that has to be the finished face. Where a landlord or housing provider is involved there is a specification to meet and a process to follow, and both are settled before a date is offered. The template happens when the units are in, fixed and level, whoever is fitting them. Appliances on site, not on order.
