Pollards Hill kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Kitchens in this stock are compact and reasonably square, which makes the fixed lines a larger share of the total than the material is. The workshop works to the template drawing and to the measured route, in that order. The drawing decides it before the saw does.
The estate housing was built on a Radburn layout with pedestrian frontages, and the kitchens are standardised, a 2.4m run plus a short return, with a serving hatch to the living room that owners often close up to gain wall space. Sizes repeat closely across whole blocks.
Closed-up hatches leave a shallow patch of new plasterboard right where the upstand lands, so fix through to the original blockwork rather than into the patch. Two-man handling with a slab trolley matters more than van proximity.
Rear access through a garden or a shared path means long pieces can usually come in whole from the back. Walls in the system-built blocks are concrete or panel and can bow noticeably over the length of a run, so the template picks up the real line and we cut the back edge to follow it rather than trimming on site with a grinder. The bench proves it before the van moves.
On these streets the housing is 1960s and 70s low-rise estate housing, Interwar semi and Postwar terrace. The differences between them show up at template, not at enquiry.
True everywhere
Worktop fabrication, in short
- Slabs come in finite sizes, so a long run needs a join.
- Joins sit over a cabinet gable, never spanning a gap or running through a cut-out.
- A finished join is typically 2–3mm, colour-matched and sanded flush.
- Your sink and hob are dry-fitted on the bench before dispatch.
Covered on our south west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Getting stone into the room
Cars park in courts and garage blocks set away from the front doors, so almost every job here involves a long carry along footpaths and through pedestrian alleys.
A front drive is the best thing that can happen to a fitting day, because the tail lift comes down within a few metres of the door and nothing is on a clock. Where unloading has to happen in one go, the load order is planned so nothing has to come off twice. That is the last thing settled before dispatch.

What gets asked for here
Honestly, this is not what we do most on this patch. Worktop replacement, worktop installation and worktop splashbacks & upstands come up more often. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work, and nothing about how it is quoted, cut or fitted changes because of it.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Worktop fabrication in Pollards Hill
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Pollards Hill on your patch?
Yes. Pollards Hill is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SW16, CR4. It is worked on our south west London run, along with the rest of Merton. A front drive is the best thing that can happen to a fitting day, because the tail lift comes down within a few metres of the door and nothing is on a clock. Pieces are loaded in reverse fitting order so the first thing off the van is the first thing that goes down. The load plan follows from it. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop fabrication in Pollards Hill be any different from anywhere else?
Walls are dense block or in-situ concrete with a bonded plaster, so the bottom course of tiles brings plaster with it when the old top comes off. The kitchen is usually a small square or L-shaped room reached through a narrow entrance lobby and a standard internal doorway, so the limit on piece length is the turn out of the lobby, and short runs mean joins are often avoidable altogether if the layout is nested tightly. The bench proves it before the van moves. Closed-up hatches leave a shallow patch of new plasterboard right where the upstand lands, so fix through to the original blockwork rather than into the patch.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Pollards Hill?
Cars park in courts and garage blocks set away from the front doors, so almost every job here involves a long carry along footpaths and through pedestrian alleys. Two-man handling with a slab trolley matters more than van proximity. A narrow entrance hall with a turn into the back of the house caps the longest piece we can physically get in, whatever the run itself measures. So the nesting is worked to the measured route first and to the slab second. It is settled on the bench, not on site.
Is Pollards Hill really a worktop fabrication area?
Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop replacement, worktop installation and worktop splashbacks & upstands. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way here as anywhere else on the patch. A worktop replacement between tenancies is a single-day job by design, because the flat is not earning while it is empty. So the nesting is planned around it rather than around a standard kitchen. Same slab run, or it is not a match. Where kitchens turn over between tenancies the priority is a surface that survives a decade of being treated as a chopping board. Cutting several kitchens from different slabs and calling them matched is where firms get caught out. Nested for the job in front of us.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
The return piece is the awkward one on a slab: short, full depth, and rarely nesting neatly against the long lengths, so yield rather than area is what moves the material figure. The nest is laid out around that, with joins placed over cabinet gables and kept clear of every cut-out. That is nested before any glass goes on the saw. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Pollards Hill?
A lightweight stud partition will not carry a breakfast bar or a peninsula end, and stone finds that out faster than laminate ever did. The template drawing carries the real geometry through to the saw, and the piece is machined to it rather than trimmed to it later. Radiused, polished, and clear of the joins. The stack boxing needs to be in its final form and the sink and hob on site before we machine, since a boxing that gets re-clad afterwards throws the notch out. Managed stock usually comes with its own rules about working hours, waste, and who is allowed on site. Changing an appliance after the nest is set means recutting the piece, not adjusting it. The approved drawing is the instruction.
