Wembley Park kitchens
The buildings and streets around Wembley Park
Booking reception counters in Wembley Park without a site visit is how people end up with a worktop that fits the drawing and not the wall. The new towers are handover-spec galley or single-wall kitchens, 2.4m to 3.2m of run in one piece with an integrated hob and no space for an island, and the churn is mostly owners upgrading laminate to quartz within a fitted carcass they intend to keep. Peninsulas replacing a breakfast bar are common because the floorplans have nowhere else to add worktop. If you are not sure, say so when you get in touch. It is a normal answer and we work with it.
Where the external walls have been overboarded to insulate them the room is fifty millimetres smaller than the drawing and the board sounds hollow throughout. The lower transaction shelf sits at the height a person in a wheelchair can be served at, and that height is fixed on the drawing before anything else about the desk is. A counter top has no wall behind it to hide a poor edge.
Kitchens are compact and standardised, which makes the fixed template, fabrication and fitting lines a larger share of the total than the stone. A housing office counter is used hard and cleaned harder, so the surface is specified for wear and the front edge for being leaned on all day. Housing office counters get cleaned harder than they get used.
What the job sheets keep listing is 2010s-2020s build-to-rent tower, 1960s Chalkhill-era blocks and 1930s semi on the fringes. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.
True everywhere
Reception counters and desks, in short
- A counter on a joiner's carcass is templated after the carcass is in, not from the drawing.
- The lower transaction shelf needs clear knee space beneath it, which decides where a leg or a gable can go.
- Long runs are joined over a support, and the join is placed where the eye does not follow the counter.
- Cable and card-reader apertures are cut in the workshop, not on site.

The place
Why Wembley Park is its own job
If you have had a worktop fitted in Wembley Park before, you will recognise some of this. Almost everything is above ground floor, so it is a booked service lift, a loading bay with a time limit, and a concierge who wants insurance paperwork before the slab leaves the van. Lift car depth decides whether a slab travels flat or on edge, and that measurement should be taken at survey, not on fitting day. Plan for narrow-format pieces here: the constraint is the lift and the flat door, not the kitchen, and a joint in the right place saves an aborted delivery. The awkward conversation belongs at your kitchen table at the quote stage, not over a half-fitted worktop.
The work
What reception counters involves
It is quoted the way a kitchen is, with the material supply-only and templating, fabrication and fitting each written on their own line rather than bundled into a rate for the frontage. The templater attends once the carcass is in and fixed, and records what the joiner actually built rather than what the elevation showed. You end up with the building open the next morning, because the work was sequenced around the hours it was allowed rather than around a normal working day.
This is commercial fit-out work cut on the same saw as a kitchen, with an entirely different set of questions attached to it. Overhang at the public face is checked against the carcass, and anything beyond what the joinery carries gets a steel flat or a plywood deck under it. The building rarely closes, so the counter goes in outside opening hours with the route boarded from the entrance door. The join sits over a support and out of the sightline.

The money
What it costs in Wembley Park
Slab yield on a counter is worse than on a kitchen, because a wide top and a narrow shelf rarely nest kindly against one another. In a galley the runs are short and the cut-outs are close together, so the fixed operations carry more of the total than the stone does. The supply band of £110 to £550 per square metre is known the day you choose a colour. What is not known until the template is the piece count and the number of cut-outs. Priced by the pieces, the apertures and the hours in the lobby.

What Wembley Park asks for
Handover-spec kitchens are square, plumb and predictable, which means the join count is honest and driven by run length rather than by the building. Where an operator is fitting out several receptions, the counters come off one slab run so the desks read as a set rather than as neighbours. Reception work is booked around the building staying open.
A trade counter or a bar does not come out of the local housing stock, so there is no ranking to give you. The housing itself asks for worktop replacement, worktop templating and worktop fabrication. The work is quoted the same way regardless.

Wembley Park in the housing figures
On the Wembley Park streets we cover, a large share of the housing has gone up in the last fifteen years. The lift car is part of the specification here. A fit-out programme leaves the counter until last, which is when the least time remains to template it. What the public leans on is specified for being leaned on.

Getting stone into a Wembley Park kitchen
Almost everything is above ground floor, so it is a booked service lift, a loading bay with a time limit, and a concierge who wants insurance paperwork before the slab leaves the van. Lift car depth decides whether a slab travels flat or on edge, and that measurement should be taken at survey, not on fitting day.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Questions we get asked in Wembley Park
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do your own fitters come out to Wembley Park?
Yes. Wembley Park is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are HA9. It is worked on our north west London run, along with the rest of Brent. Underground loading has a height restriction, and a van with an A-frame on it is taller than the driver remembers. A commercial frontage rarely has anywhere to stop, so the unload is timed rather than assumed and the counter pieces come off first. Where the bay is booked by the hour, pieces come off in fitting order. Nothing needs visiting and nothing needs collecting: the template is in your kitchen and so is the fit.
Is there anything about Wembley Park buildings that catches reception counters out?
Entry-phone access, a booked lift and a parking bay near the entrance all have to be arranged before a date is confirmed. These are the counters where the lower transaction shelf earns its keep, because the people served at it are the people the standard was written for, so the knee space and the clear approach to it are checked on site rather than taken off a drawing. A converted house wants a counter that reads as furniture. Anything that has to stay accessible, a stopcock, a gas meter, a riser panel, is marked on the template so the stone is cut around it instead of over it. A counter is worse off than a kitchen here, because it usually stands clear of the wall and has nothing behind it to hide a gap. What is out of true gets measured, not talked around.
What do you check about the route into a Wembley Park property?
Standing a three-metre length on end takes more headroom outside the car than inside it, and a low lobby ceiling is what actually stops it. A counter top is one long piece with no run of cabinets to break it, so the route decides the join count before the sightlines get a vote. Where the lift will not take it, the join is designed rather than risked. Where the bay sits some distance from the core, the carry across the car park is the longest leg of the day and gets boarded and lit. Loading bays belonging to the building are booked by whoever holds the lease, and that is seldom whoever ordered the counter. The transaction shelf can wait on the van; the counter cannot.
Would you call Wembley Park a reception counters area?
Not really, and there is no sense dressing it up. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop replacement, worktop templating and worktop fabrication. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work. It gets quoted, cut and fitted exactly as it would anywhere else on the patch. A specification repeated across several plots has to be repeatable, which quietly rules out the natural stones where no two slabs match. Counters are nearly always one-offs, so the saving that comes from repeating a specification is not usually on the table here. A desk somebody sits at all day is specified for wear. Replacing one plot years after handover is the problem nobody plans for, because a quartz colour can be reordered and a granite block cannot. A fit-out programme puts the counter last, behind the joiner and the electrician, which is exactly when the least time is left to template it. Card reader positions come from the operator, not the architect.
Why do two Wembley Park kitchens the same size price differently?
An aisle under a metre stops being a working space the moment two people are in it, and the depth of the tops either side is what decides whether that happens. A counter has the same argument in miniature: a straight run nests kindly on a slab, and every return costs yield. Nothing is drawn square that the carcass did not build square. Stone is £110 to £550 per square metre supply only, and the templating, the fabrication and the fitting each carry their own line.
What has to be finished before you can template?
A notch around a boxed stack is machined with a radius at the internal corner, because a square inside corner there is exactly where a top will crack. What a counter is scribed to is the joiner's carcass rather than the plaster, which is why it is templated after the carcass is fixed and never before. A lobby floor that falls is packed out under the joinery. Tell us the hours the building can be worked in and whether the lobby stays open, and send photographs of every corner so we can find the ducts before we draw. Where ownership is split across a building, the common parts belong to someone else and the carry route is negotiated rather than assumed. The same split runs through commercial property: a landlord fitting out a shell and a tenant fitting out their own reception want different things from one counter. Access and out-of-hours permission sit with the building, not the tenant.
Is taking the old top off part of the job?
Old tops are screwed or glued from underneath, so the drawer boxes come out before the worktop does. Disposal means it goes in the van, not into the garden to wait for a collection. The sink and hob are lifted out with the old top and kept aside if you are reusing them. The goods lift has its own booking sheet, and a bay slot without a lift slot only gets the stone as far as the lobby. The upper counter is the longest piece on the van, so the tail lift needs the full swing radius clear on the pavement. Nothing is stood anywhere on a pavement it could be knocked from.
Are hob and sink cut-outs priced separately on a Wembley Park quote?
Each cut-out is priced on its own line, so a range, a bowl and a half, a boiling tap and a drainer are four items rather than one. A tap under a window board still needs room for its handle to lift, which is checked at the template. Two bowls means two cut-outs and a bridge of stone between them, which decides where the sink can go. A dishwasher door on one side and an oven door on the other cannot both stand open in a narrow aisle, so which appliance goes where matters more in this shape than in any other. The return between the high counter and the low shelf never nests neatly, and it is what decides how much slab the desk swallows. The counter shape follows the queue first and the slab second.
Is templating a separate visit from fitting?
The template produces a drawing, and the workshop cuts to that drawing once you agree it. The design and quotation visit comes first. It is free and carries no obligation. Templating and fitting are two visits, not one, and the gap between them is when the stone is actually cut. The balcony door frequently opens off the kitchen, which puts a threshold, a draught and a well-used route through one end of the run. A reception counter answers to the building it stands in more than to the drawing, because it is fabricated to a carcass somebody else has already built and fixed. Front of house is read from standing height and from seated height both.
What is the difference between an upstand and a splashback?
What decides between them is usually the wall: what it is built of, how flat it is, and where the sockets ended up. A full-height piece shows a wall that is out more than an upstand does, over the extra height. Socket and switch positions have to be final before templating, because the openings are machined rather than chopped out on the wall. The kitchen is a narrow room off the hall with the window at the far end, so the run is a galley by construction rather than by choice. Estates of this kind carry the buildings that serve them: a housing office, a health centre, a community hall, and every one has a counter the public queues at. Old shopfronts were never sized for a three-metre top.

We recently had the Arctic Starburst worktop installed by Worktop WorX and it looks amazing. The subtle sparkle really catches the light and gives the kitchen a clean, modern feel. The Arctic Starburst surface feels high quality, durable, and is easy to keep clean. The finish and installation from Worktop WorX were spot on. Really happy with the result and would definitely recommend both Arctic Starburst and Worktop WorX to anyone upgrading their kitchen.
