Wennington kitchens

What the kitchens here are actually like

village cottagefarmhousescattered post-war detached

Long perimeter runs and an island mean level has to hold across the whole room rather than along any one wall. Pieces are cut, mitred, machined and dry-assembled on the bench before anything is loaded onto a van. The drawing decides it before the saw does.

A tiny riverside village with a very small housing stock: older cottages and farm properties with thick walls, small windows and kitchens that were never planned as one room. Work here is bespoke by necessity, with runs broken by structural piers and a freestanding cooker rather than a fitted hob in most cases.

A range or an Aga in an original recess is usually immovable, so the run is designed around it and the clearances come from the appliance. The joins here are chosen rather than forced, so they go where the veining and the gables want them. The bench proves it before the van moves.

On these streets the housing is village cottage, farmhouse and scattered post-war detached. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.

True everywhere

Worktop fabrication, in short

  • Slabs come in finite sizes, so a long run needs a join.
  • Joins sit over a cabinet gable, never spanning a gap or running through a cut-out.
  • A finished join is typically 2–3mm, colour-matched and sanded flush.
  • Your sink and hob are dry-fitted on the bench before dispatch.

Covered on our east London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Getting stone into the room

No restrictions and easy standing outside most properties, but it is a long haul from anywhere and the approach roads are exposed and narrow in places.

Where the van can pull up level with the gate the pieces are handled the fewest times, which is what actually protects them. Where unloading has to happen in one go, the load order is planned so nothing has to come off twice. The load plan follows from it.

What gets asked for here

Second or third on the list around here, after worktop templating. Same visit, same bench, same crew, same lead time.

The building, and what it does to the job

Small, one-off rooms out here rarely have a single straight wall, so everything is templated in one visit and cut to that template only.

True everywhere, stated once

Fabrication is where access quietly becomes a design decision. How the stone reaches the room decides how big each piece can be, and therefore how many joins the kitchen ends up with.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions

Worktop fabrication in Wennington

If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.

Is Wennington on your patch?

Yes. Wennington is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are RM13. It is worked on our east London run, along with the rest of Havering. Where the van can pull up level with the gate the pieces are handled the fewest times, which is what actually protects them. Pieces are loaded in reverse fitting order so the first thing off the van is the first thing that goes down. The load plan follows from it. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.

Why would worktop fabrication in Wennington be any different from anywhere else?

Doorways are low and narrow, which is a genuine constraint on piece length before anything else is considered. Access is off a drive and through wide doors, so for once the piece size is not the constraint - the joins that go in are the ones we choose for layout and veining, not the ones the building forces. Settled on the drawing, cut once. Small, one-off rooms out here rarely have a single straight wall, so everything is templated in one visit and cut to that template only.

How would you get a worktop into a property in Wennington?

No restrictions and easy standing outside most properties, but it is a long haul from anywhere and the approach roads are exposed and narrow in places. A short hard approach with no steps means a full-length piece can be walked in flat by two people rather than turned up on edge. So the nesting is worked to the measured route first and to the slab second. The drawing carries that decision through to the saw.

Is worktop fabrication common in Wennington?

It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop templating. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. So the nesting is planned around it rather than around a standard kitchen. Proven on the bench before dispatch. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. Pieces are dry-assembled and checked on the bench before anything is loaded. Nested for the job in front of us.

What moves the number on a quote around here?

The catch with a galley is that both runs are seen end-on from the doorway, so any difference in overhang between the two reads immediately. A join that lands in the wrong place cannot be moved once the cut-outs are machined, so it is settled on the drawing. The bench proves it before the van does. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.

What needs to be ready before you come to Wennington?

The returns into a breast recess are the tightest scribes in the room, and they are eased in rather than forced. The template drawing carries the real geometry through to the saw, and the piece is machined to it rather than trimmed to it later. The drawing decides it, not the fitter. The range or Aga, the sink and the tap all need to be confirmed by model before nesting, because their clearances and hole positions set where the island can be cut. Owner-occupied kitchens are usually being done once, which is why the edge profile, the vein direction and where a join falls are worth the conversation. Changing an appliance after the nest is set means recutting the piece, not adjusting it. The approved drawing is the instruction.
