Splitting a run costs a join, and that is the price of getting stone into the room at all. A join added to get stone into the room is a different thing from a join added because the slab ran out, and the quote says which is which. If a piece cannot be got in at all, we say so at the template rather than on the day. Counting hands matters more than counting metres on a staircase, because a piece two people lift off a van still wants three on the flight and a fourth watching the trailing corner. The lower transaction shelf is short and easily handled; it is the upper counter that has to be walked in on edge and turned at every corner. Two heights means two carries, and the low one is not the difficult one.
