Having the van on the drive means the load can be staged, so the heavy pieces come off last and go straight in instead of standing outside. A commercial frontage rarely has anywhere to stop, so the unload is timed rather than assumed and the counter pieces come off first. Outside opening hours is usually when the kerb is free. Walls look modern and are not: block or breeze with a skim that has been patched over decades, so dry-laying and scribing still apply. Stone will not straighten joinery, and it will not forgive it either. The decision usually gets made standing in the room rather than at a desk, which is why a slab is worth viewing whole instead of choosing from a sample card. The sink and hob are lifted out with the old top and kept aside if you are reusing them. Take the old tops off yourself if you would rather, and the quote simply carries one line fewer. The template can be taken with the old top still down, which is why one visit covers both. Where a car has to come off the drive first, it is worth knowing whose car it is and whether the keys are in the house on the morning. The upper counter is the longest piece on the van, so the tail lift needs the full swing radius clear on the pavement. The longest counter piece decides the swing radius outside.

The grooves sit inside the depth of the top with stone left either side, so a shallow run limits them. Machining is permanent. If a later kitchen moves the sink, the grooves stay where they were cut. Which side of the bowl they go is about how you stand at the sink, and it is settled before cutting. Small, roughly square kitchens with a back door and a window in the middle of the run: short lengths, few joins, and a lot to work around.
