Enfield Lock kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
The lift car, the loading bay and the building manager decide the piece sizes here, not the slab. Protection down, dry-lay, scribe, then bond: the order matters more in a difficult room than an easy one. The route is walked before the first lift.
Enfield Island Village houses have compact modern kitchens on a standard 600 grid, usually an L with 2.8m and 1.8m legs and no room for an island. Work here is mostly first-owner upgrades from builder-grade laminate, plus matching upstands rather than full-height splashbacks. The Island is reached over a small number of bridged access roads with tight turning heads and resident-only bays, so plan the van position before you arrive rather than driving round.
These buildings have firm rules about what can be propped open, left in a lobby or carried through the residents entrance. The lift is measured before the piece is loaded, and once inside the flat the fitting is quick by comparison. The slow parts are slow for a reason.
On these streets the housing is 1990s Island Village house, 2000s waterside flat and Victorian factory-worker terrace. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our north London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
It is on the shortlist for this patch rather than at the top of it, because worktop replacement comes up more often. Nothing about the process differs between the two.

The building, and what it does to the job
Ceilings and window reveals are low in these units - measure the upstand height at the window cill, it is frequently under 100mm.
A low sill over the sink run is what decides between an upstand and stone dying into a window board, and there is often less clearance than an upstand is tall. Rushing that is what leaves a gap you look at every morning for fifteen years. It is the slow part of the day and it should be.
The service lift's internal diagonal, which is often shorter than the longest run and forces the join position before we start.

True everywhere, stated once
Installation is the day the templating either pays off or does not. Almost everything that makes it hard is a property of the building rather than the stone.
Access
Getting stone into a Enfield Lock kitchen
The Island is reached over a small number of bridged access roads with tight turning heads and resident-only bays, so plan the van position before you arrive rather than driving round.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.
3–7 working days
From template to fitted, working days from template. The same on this patch as every other.

Questions
Worktop installation in Enfield Lock
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Enfield Lock, or just list it?
Yes. Enfield Lock is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are EN3. It is worked on our north London run, along with the rest of Enfield. Without a bay the van ends up on a single yellow with a crew member watching it, which takes a pair of hands off the carry. A van that has to move mid-fit costs the best part of an hour and takes a man off the tools to do it. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop installation in Enfield Lock?
Floor-to-ceiling glazing lights the worktop from one side all day, which shows every ripple in a polished surface and every gap at a scribe. Everything comes up in the lift, so we measure the lift car's internal diagonal before the piece is loaded, because a car that takes 2.4m on the diagonal will not take a 3m worktop no matter how you stand it. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted. Ceilings and window reveals are low in these units - measure the upstand height at the window cill, it is frequently under 100mm.
Is access a problem in Enfield Lock?
The Island is reached over a small number of bridged access roads with tight turning heads and resident-only bays, so plan the van position before you arrive rather than driving round. Door width, hall width and the diagonal at the turn are three separate measurements, and it is the diagonal that catches people out. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. That is what the morning is planned around.
Is worktop installation common in Enfield Lock?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Handover-spec kitchens are square, plumb and predictable, which means the join count is honest and driven by run length rather than by the building. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. The prep list is not optional. Developer-fitted kitchens come with thin cam-lock carcasses, which are fine under laminate and want bracing before stone goes on them. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. Sealed before we leave.
What decides the price of a worktop in Enfield Lock?
An island is a single visible piece with four finished edges and no wall to hide against, so it is the piece the whole kitchen is judged on. On the day that means dry-laying the whole layout first and only then pulling and bonding the joins. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
A low sill over the sink run is what decides between an upstand and stone dying into a window board, and there is often less clearance than an upstand is tall. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. Dry-lay, mark, cut, then bond. Book the service lift and loading bay with the building manager for the whole fitting window, and have the fob or key for lift override ready. The same building type can arrive as a careful one-off kitchen or as a fast turnaround, and the honest answer is that they are priced differently. Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door, communal or otherwise. Protection goes down first.
