Hanger Hill kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Long perimeter runs and an island mean level has to hold across the whole room rather than along any one wall. Old top out in the morning, new stone down and sealed the same afternoon, with a plumber either side of us. Stone is far heavier than what is coming off.
Garden estate flats with small original kitchens and a management company that has views on layout changes, giving two-wall runs under 3m, alongside the larger mock-Tudor houses taking full remodels.
The Hanger Lane gyratory and the A40 dominate the approach.
These houses usually sit in their own grounds with a long approach, so the carry from van to door is longer than anything inside the building. These are the multi-piece jobs: long runs, a large island and often a range cooker that cannot be moved, so the stone is templated in several pieces and how the vein runs across the joins matters. Sound carcasses are the one condition.
The buildings themselves are mostly 1930s Hanger Hill Garden Estate flat, mock-Tudor semi and detached and interwar apartment block. Which of those you have decides most of what follows.
True everywhere
Worktop replacement, in short
- The units stay. Only the surface changes.
- Old tops come out in the morning, new stone is down and sealed the same day.
- A plumber disconnects the tap and waste before we arrive and reconnects at the end of the day.
- The carcasses have to be sound: stone is far heavier than laminate.
Covered on our west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

The building, and what it does to the job
Those walk-up blocks have tight stair turns with a low soffit, so anything over 2.4m has to be jointed simply to get it up to the flat.
An island that is not fixed to the floor, is not level along its length, or has a breakfast-bar overhang with nothing supporting it.

Getting stone into the room
The garden estate has communal courts, controlled parking and low-rise blocks with no lifts.
A walk-up with winders at every half-landing means the piece is rested and re-gripped on the way, so the crew size goes up before the piece size comes down. We plan the strip-out and the carry as one movement so the kitchen is only out of use for a single day. It sets what the day actually looks like.

What gets asked for here
Of everything we do around here, this is the one that comes up most, with worktop installation and worktop templating behind it.

Getting stone into a Hanger Hill kitchen
The Hanger Lane gyratory and the A40 dominate the approach. The garden estate has communal courts, controlled parking and low-rise blocks with no lifts.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop replacement in Hanger Hill
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Hanger Hill on your patch?
Yes. Hanger Hill is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are W5. It is worked on our west London run, along with the rest of Ealing. Without a bay the van ends up on a single yellow with a crew member watching it, which takes a pair of hands off the carry. A replacement is a two-way job, with old tops going out and new stone coming in, so the van needs to stay put across the whole day. Old tops out and new stone in, both through the same gap. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop replacement in Hanger Hill be any different from anywhere else?
Original joinery is deep and stands proud of the plaster, so the run is plotted to the units rather than to the wall behind them. Any island overhang past about 300mm will not carry weight on the carcass alone, so flat steel bar or brackets have to be let into the units first, and that is agreed at template stage, not on fit day. What is under the old top is the real question. Those walk-up blocks have tight stair turns with a low soffit, so anything over 2.4m has to be jointed simply to get it up to the flat.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Hanger Hill?
The Hanger Lane gyratory and the A40 dominate the approach. The garden estate has communal courts, controlled parking and low-rise blocks with no lifts. Communal stairs get boarded and the handrail padded, and we walk the route with a tape before the first piece leaves the van. Worth remembering that the old tops have to come out the way the new ones come in, and a laminate run is easier to remove in one length than to carry in one. The strip-out is planned around it.
Is Hanger Hill mostly worktop replacement work for you?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop installation and worktop templating. The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. The units stay and only the surface changes, so the whole job is one day rather than a kitchen refit. A day, not a project. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. The carcasses have to be sound, because stone is several times the weight of what is coming off. A day, not a project.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
The return piece is the awkward one on a slab: short, full depth, and rarely nesting neatly against the long lengths, so yield rather than area is what moves the material figure. The existing layout is being kept, so the question is whether the old carcasses will take stone in that shape without more support. The units stay, the surface changes. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Hanger Hill?
Where a breast interrupts a long wall the join can often go there, so it reads as a natural break rather than a line in the middle of a worktop. We would rather find it at template than on the morning, which is why the templater looks behind the units. The laminate has been covering it up. Have a fitter or joiner fix and level the island units beforehand, and get the sink, taps, hob and any range on site before templating so we cut to the actual appliances. Managed stock usually comes with its own rules about working hours, waste, and who is allowed on site. A plumber disconnects before we arrive and reconnects after we leave, and that is worth booking early. Sound carcasses are the condition.
