Park Royal kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Services coming up through a floor slab mean the island cannot move to suit the stone, so the stone is cut to suit the island. The units stay and only the surface changes, so the job is a day, and what makes it a difficult day is the building. A single day, planned properly.
The real activity here is trade: this is stone yard, slab wholesaler and CNC territory, so it is where material gets bought and cut rather than where it gets fitted.
Wide industrial roads, forklift-friendly yards and A-road access, which is exactly why the supply chain sits here. Domestic drops at the edges are ordinary kerbside jobs, but weekday HGV traffic around the estate makes timing slots unreliable. Very little traditional housing stock, so the domestic work is mostly at the residential fringe and in converted or newly built blocks with compact single-wall kitchens. This is the collection end of the job rather than the fitting end, and a slab picked up here still has to survive the North Circular before it reaches a kitchen.
Steel columns and downstands land where the frame put them, which is frequently in the middle of what would otherwise be a clean run. Converted warehouses put the kitchen against original brick or blockwork that has never been made flat, so scribes of 15 to 20mm along a run are normal and every piece is templated to the wall exactly as it is rather than to a drawing. Sound carcasses are the one condition.
What we are usually templating in is industrial estate with little housing, 1930s workers' terrace at the edges and recent residential conversion blocks. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Worktop replacement, in short
- The units stay. Only the surface changes.
- Old tops come out in the morning, new stone is down and sealed the same day.
- A plumber disconnects the tap and waste before we arrive and reconnects at the end of the day.
- The carcasses have to be sound: stone is far heavier than laminate.

What gets asked for here
This is not the local speciality and there is no point saying otherwise: worktop fabrication, worktop templating and worktop installation is what the housing here actually asks for. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way regardless.

Getting stone into the room
Where the van stands level with the front of the house a piece gets handled twice instead of five times, and stone breaks on handling rather than on the road. Worth remembering that the old tops have to come out the way the new ones come in, and a laminate run is easier to remove in one length than to carry in one. The strip-out is planned around it.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop replacement in Park Royal
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Park Royal?
Yes. Park Royal is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are NW10, W3. It is worked on our north west London run, along with the rest of Brent. Unrestricted kerbside is straightforward as long as the space in front of the property is actually clear when the van arrives. Waste is the part people forget: the old laminate or tired granite has to be walked back to the van and it does not get lighter. Old tops out and new stone in, both through the same gap. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Park Royal change how worktop replacement works?
Steel columns and downstands land where the frame put them, which is frequently in the middle of what would otherwise be a clean run. Many of these kitchens are island pods in the middle of an open plan with waste and feeds coming up through the floor, so the island cannot be nudged to suit the stone and the stone gets cut to suit the island. Units kept, surface changed, one day. This is the collection end of the job rather than the fitting end, and a slab picked up here still has to survive the North Circular before it reaches a kitchen.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Park Royal?
Wide industrial roads, forklift-friendly yards and A-road access, which is exactly why the supply chain sits here. Domestic drops at the edges are ordinary kerbside jobs, but weekday HGV traffic around the estate makes timing slots unreliable. Where the van stands level with the front of the house a piece gets handled twice instead of five times, and stone breaks on handling rather than on the road. With no room to turn, the old top gets cut up in the kitchen instead, which is dusty work and needs the room emptied first. The strip-out is planned around it.
Is Park Royal really a worktop replacement area?
Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop fabrication, worktop templating and worktop installation. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way here as anywhere else on the patch. In a converted house the flat entrance and the internal doorway are usually tighter than the communal stairs, and that is easy to overlook. Old tops out in the morning, new stone down and sealed the same afternoon. A day, not a project. A kitchen carved out of a larger room sits under whatever the original plan left behind, so the run frequently ends at a blocked doorway or a boxed-in service. The units stay and only the surface changes, so the whole job is one day rather than a kitchen refit. A day, not a project.
Why do two Park Royal kitchens the same size price differently?
The catch with a galley is that both runs are seen end-on from the doorway, so any difference in overhang between the two reads immediately. Going from a 38mm laminate to 20mm or 30mm stone drops the surface, which shows against tiles, a window board and any freestanding appliance. The units stay, the surface changes. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
A deep scribe comes out of the nest, so how far the stone has to be relieved changes which part of the slab the piece is cut from. The old top has been hiding it, so the first honest look at it happens when the laminate comes off. The laminate has been covering it up. Book the goods lift and loading bay for the day, clear a straight route through the open plan, and have a plumber on hand for the island services coming up through the floor. A let property is specified for durability and for a fixed window, and both of those are legitimate reasons to choose differently. A plumber disconnects before we arrive and reconnects after we leave, and that is worth booking early. Sound carcasses are the condition.
