The vanity tops in Park Royal that go smoothly are the ones where somebody asked awkward questions about the room at the start. Very little traditional housing stock, so the domestic work is mostly at the residential fringe and in converted or newly built blocks with compact single-wall kitchens. The real activity here is trade: this is stone yard, slab wholesaler and CNC territory, so it is where material gets bought and cut rather than where it gets fitted. Old kitchens rarely announce what they are. That is why somebody comes out and looks before a price is written.
Painted brick is flat nowhere, and raked-back mortar joints leave a line no straightedge agrees with. Nobody looks at a bathroom surface until the sealant discolours, at which point nobody looks at anything else in the room. A bathroom top is drawn from the fitted unit, never from a plan.
The goods lift is generous and the flat entrance often is not, so the tightest point on the route is inside the flat rather than in the building. Bathrooms in these are pods built inside the shell, so the walls are new square studwork and the vanity is drawn to a room that was set out on paper. Pressed steel baths and stone vanities are a common pairing.
The houses and blocks behind these jobs are industrial estate with little housing, 1930s workers' terrace at the edges and recent residential conversion blocks. A quote that ignores which one you have is guessing.
