Marble-effect Dekton worktops

Marble-effect Dekton worktops from £170/m² supply: Calacatta-style whites and veined blacks that take heat and never need sealing, fitted in London.

Kairos sintered stone worktop surface

These are the Dekton colours made to look like marble: white grounds with grey or gold veins in the Calacatta and Carrara style, softer veined whites, and dark stones with a gold or white line through them. Dekton is a sintered stone made by Cosentino, so you get the look of marble on a surface that takes heat, never needs sealing and does not etch.

It is the most durable surface we fit. There is no resin in it, so a hot pan cannot scorch it, and its porosity is effectively nil, so wine, oil and coffee sit on the surface and wipe away. It is also the only surface we will fit outdoors or in a room full of sun.

We fit 20 marble-effect Dekton colours, supplied from £170 to £360 per square metre from Dekton. Kairos is the least expensive and Bergen the dearest; fabrication, cut-outs and fitting are quoted on top, per kitchen.

Choosing

Choosing a marble-effect Dekton

Choose the vein first. A bold Calacatta-style vein suits an island or a long uninterrupted run; a soft, fine vein is easier on a kitchen broken up by a hob, a sink and tall units. Dark veined colours make a strong island against a pale run.

Large slabs mean fewer joins on a long run, and on some colours the pattern can be book-matched across an island, but the vein still has to be planned from the slab at the template stage. Our page on where the joins go shows how a join is placed so the vein carries on.

Hardness is Dekton’s strength and its one weakness. A very hard material is brittle at thin, unsupported edges, so a heavy knock on an exposed corner can chip it. That is a fabrication matter more than an owner one, which is why we ease corners, support overhangs and radius cut-outs. Read how sintered stone is made for the detail.

Some finishes are matt or textured, and those can show fingerprints and residue more than a polished surface, particularly in dark colours. Day to day it needs nothing more than warm water and a soft cloth, and it copes with cleaning products that would harm a quartz resin.

Marble-effect Dekton worktops: common questions

01

What is Dekton?

Dekton is a sintered stone made by Cosentino from a blend of mineral powders, the same raw materials found in glass, porcelain and natural stone, compacted under very high pressure and fired so they fuse into one dense body. There is no resin in it, so it takes heat and never needs sealing.

02

Is marble-effect Dekton more expensive than quartz?

Usually, yes. Compare the supply prices on this page with our marble-effect quartz: most Dekton colours cost more per square metre, and fabrication takes more care. In return it takes heat, cannot scorch and can be used outdoors.

03

Does Dekton chip?

Its surface is very hard to scratch or mark, but thin, unsupported edges and exposed corners can chip if something heavy hits them. Eased corners, supported overhangs and radiused cut-outs are how we reduce that risk.

04

How much do marble-effect Dekton worktops cost?

Supply prices for the 20 marble-effect Dekton colours we fit run from £170 per square metre (Kairos) to £360 (Bergen), with Reverie in the middle at £300. That is the slab only: templating, fabrication, edges, cut-outs and fitting are quoted on top, itemised, after we have seen your kitchen.

05

Can I get a free sample of marble-effect Dekton?

Not by post. We only hold offcuts of the Worktop Worx quartz collection, and marble-effect Dekton is ordered in by the slab. We can arrange for you to see the slab your worktop will be cut from before anything is cut.
