Liverpool Street kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Thick external walls, deep window reveals and boxed risers mean the runs are templated to what is there rather than to a rectangle. Protection down, dry-lay, scribe, then bond: the order matters more in a difficult room than an easy one. One visit, our own installers.
Residential units are mostly upper-floor conversions in narrow-fronted commercial buildings, so kitchens are long and thin - a 3m single run along one wall with no facing return, and appliances stacked rather than spread. Ceiling heights are generous but the plan is tight, which is why full-height stone behind the run is more common here than wall cupboards.
Station-side streets carry very heavy pedestrian flow all day and several approach lanes are pedestrianised or too narrow for a Luton, so the van stops further out than you would like.
Permitted works hours are commonly weekdays with a late start and an early finish, so a one-day fit is planned around the porter and the lift. The porter has to be booked, the goods lift protected with the block's own blankets or our own boards, and communal carpet and stair runners covered from the entrance to the flat door before a single piece moves. That is the shape of the day.
The buildings themselves are mostly Victorian commercial building converted to flats, modern apartment above retail, narrow court and alley building and mixed-use scheme near the station. A quote that ignores which one you have is guessing.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our the City run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

The building, and what it does to the job
Long thin kitchens in narrow buildings mean the run is easy and the stair is not - build the joints around the landing pivot, not the wall length.

Getting stone into the room
Entrances are frequently a single door in a narrow court with a straight steep stair and no lift, which caps piece length hard at what two people can pivot on a landing.
Communal stairs get boarded and the handrail padded, and we walk the route with a tape before the first piece leaves the van. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. That is what the morning is planned around.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Liverpool Street
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Liverpool Street, or just list it?
Yes. Liverpool Street is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are EC2M. It is worked on our the City run, along with the rest of the Square Mile. Where the frontage is a clearway the unload happens away from the door and the carry gets longer, which is a crew and time question rather than a stone one. A van that has to move mid-fit costs the best part of an hour and takes a man off the tools to do it. The day is built around that window. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop installation in Liverpool Street?
Permitted works hours are commonly weekdays with a late start and an early finish, so a one-day fit is planned around the porter and the lift. The porter has to be booked, the goods lift protected with the block's own blankets or our own boards, and communal carpet and stair runners covered from the entrance to the flat door before a single piece moves. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted. Long thin kitchens in narrow buildings mean the run is easy and the stair is not - build the joints around the landing pivot, not the wall length.
Is access a problem in Liverpool Street?
Station-side streets carry very heavy pedestrian flow all day and several approach lanes are pedestrianised or too narrow for a Luton, so the van stops further out than you would like. Entrances are frequently a single door in a narrow court with a straight steep stair and no lift, which caps piece length hard at what two people can pivot on a landing. Weight tells on a staircase more than anywhere else, because there is nowhere to set a piece down mid-flight and no way to change your grip once it is moving. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. That is what the morning is planned around.
Do you do much worktop installation around Liverpool Street?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. A kitchen carved out of a larger room sits under whatever the original plan left behind, so the run frequently ends at a blocked doorway or a boxed-in service. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. The prep list is not optional. In a converted house the flat entrance and the internal doorway are usually tighter than the communal stairs, and that is easy to overlook. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. Sealed before we leave.
What decides the price of a worktop in Liverpool Street?
Galley runs are usually short enough to come out of a single slab, so the material band you choose does more to the total than the room shape does. A layout that has been packed and levelled run by run instead of to one datum shows as a step where two pieces meet. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
Anything that has to stay accessible, a stopcock, a gas meter, a riser panel, is marked on the template so the stone is cut around it instead of over it. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. Eased in, never forced. Have the works booking confirmed with the managing agent or porter in advance, with the lift slot and any parking permit or bay suspension in place. Where ownership is split across a building, the common parts belong to someone else and the carry route is negotiated rather than assumed. Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door, communal or otherwise. Protection goes down first.
