Moorgate kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Developer carcasses are thin cam-lock chipboard, which is entirely adequate under laminate and wants bracing before stone. The fitting day is planned backwards from all of it, before the first piece comes off the van. Sink and hob seated and sealed before we go.
Flats on the Barbican fringe are modern and open-plan, with kitchens of 3-3.6m plus a 2m island, and the specification usually favours a light quartz with a mitred edge to make a windowless interior read brighter.
Ongoing construction across this fringe means hoardings and lane closures change frequently, so confirm the approach the morning of the fit. Moorgate and London Wall are busy multi-lane routes with no stopping, so deliveries go into building basements with height barriers, or onto short side-street windows early in the day. Windowless interiors are lit by spots and LED strip, which is unforgiving on a bad joint - dry-fit the joint and check it under the client's own lighting before it is glued. Where a former office has been converted, the kitchen sits against a retained core wall with services in a bulkhead, which limits wall-cupboard height and makes a full-height stone splashback the tidy answer.
The structure is a concrete or steel frame, so what looks like a wall is often a partition and what looks like a partition is often a column. The lift is measured before the piece is loaded, and once inside the flat the fitting is quick by comparison. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted.
The stock behind these kitchens runs to modern apartment block, office to residential conversion, postwar block with flats and development on the Barbican fringe. They are not interchangeable, and a worktop finds the differences quickly.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our the City run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
Of everything we do around here, this is the one that comes up most, with worktop fabrication and worktop replacement behind it.

The building, and what it does to the job
Boxed soil stacks and ventilation ducts run behind the units, and the boxing depth changes between floor level and worktop height. Everything comes up in the lift, so we measure the lift car's internal diagonal before the piece is loaded, because a car that takes 2.4m on the diagonal will not take a 3m worktop no matter how you stand it. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted.

Getting stone into the room
The barrier, the entry code and the estate rules decide when a van can get near the door, and none of that is negotiable on the day. We walk the route with a tape and protect it end to end before the first piece is lifted. None of it is worked out on the doorstep.

Getting stone into a Moorgate kitchen
Moorgate and London Wall are busy multi-lane routes with no stopping, so deliveries go into building basements with height barriers, or onto short side-street windows early in the day. Ongoing construction across this fringe means hoardings and lane closures change frequently, so confirm the approach the morning of the fit.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Moorgate
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Moorgate?
Yes. Moorgate is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are EC2M, EC2Y. It is worked on our the City run, along with the rest of the Square Mile. Where the frontage is a clearway the unload happens away from the door and the carry gets longer, which is a crew and time question rather than a stone one. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Moorgate change how worktop installation works?
Service risers from the original building run through the flats. They are boxed, they stay, and they have to remain accessible. Everything comes up in the lift, so we measure the lift car's internal diagonal before the piece is loaded, because a car that takes 2.4m on the diagonal will not take a 3m worktop no matter how you stand it. The slow parts are slow for a reason. Windowless interiors are lit by spots and LED strip, which is unforgiving on a bad joint - dry-fit the joint and check it under the client's own lighting before it is glued.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Moorgate?
Moorgate and London Wall are busy multi-lane routes with no stopping, so deliveries go into building basements with height barriers, or onto short side-street windows early in the day. Ongoing construction across this fringe means hoardings and lane closures change frequently, so confirm the approach the morning of the fit. Sign-in at the gate, a permit on the dash and a named contact are usually wanted before anything comes off the van. The fitting day is planned backwards from that point, before anything comes off the van. That is what the morning is planned around.
Is Moorgate mostly worktop installation work for you?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop fabrication and worktop replacement. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. Sealed before we leave. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. One visit, done properly.
Why do two Moorgate kitchens the same size price differently?
Seating overhangs past roughly 300mm will not carry on the carcass alone, so flat steel bar or a plywood substrate has to be built into the units first. A layout that has been packed and levelled run by run instead of to one datum shows as a step where two pieces meet. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
Where a partition has been built off the floor screed rather than off the slab, it moves, and a mitre bonded across that corner is the first thing to open. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. Eased in, never forced. Book the service lift and loading bay with the building manager for the whole fitting window, and have the fob or key for lift override ready. Mixed ownership means the decision-maker is not always the person who lets us in, so it is worth being clear early about who signs the quote off. The fitting day is arranged with whoever can actually give us access for the whole slot. Access for the whole slot, or a different day.
