Park Langley kitchens

What the kitchens here are actually like

Edwardian garden-suburb detached1920s arts and crafts house1930s detachedpost-war infill

Wide doors, generous rooms and somewhere to park mean the joins that go in are the ones we choose, not the ones the building forces. Protection down, dry-lay, scribe, then bond: the order matters more in a difficult room than an easy one. Sink and hob seated and sealed before we go.

Large early-twentieth-century houses built as a garden suburb, with big rear kitchens that were originally servant space, so there is often a scullery, larder and back stair to absorb into one room. Finished kitchens run to a 3m island plus a separate utility and frequently a second prep sink.

These houses have solid brick internal walls rather than stud, so wall-hung breakfast bars and long unsupported overhangs can actually be fixed properly here instead of needing steel brackets everywhere.

These houses usually sit in their own grounds with a long approach, so the carry from van to door is longer than anything inside the building. Getting in is straightforward, so the day is spent dry-laying and scribing to walls that have never been straight. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted.

What we are usually templating in is Edwardian garden-suburb detached, 1920s arts and crafts house, 1930s detached and post-war infill. The differences between them show up at template, not at enquiry.

True everywhere

Worktop installation, in short

  • One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
  • Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
  • We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
  • Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.

Covered on our south east London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Getting stone into the room

Wide verged roads with in-and-out drives and plenty of room to unload, but the houses sit well back behind long front paths and several have covenants on frontage alterations.

Gravel and block paving both look like hard standing and neither takes a loaded trolley, so the run from tail lift to door gets boarded. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. It is why the arrival time is what it is.

What gets asked for here

This is one of the three jobs that come up most here, behind worktop design & quotation. It is the same template visit, the same workshop and the same installers either way.

The building, and what it does to the job

The carry distance from the van to the door, which is often long enough that the piece has to be rested and re-gripped part way.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions

Worktop installation in Park Langley

If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.

Do you cover Park Langley?

Yes. Park Langley is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are BR3. It is worked on our south east London run, along with the rest of Bromley. Gravel and block paving both look like hard standing and neither takes a loaded trolley, so the run from tail lift to door gets boarded. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.

Does the housing in Park Langley change how worktop installation works?

Original joinery is deep and stands proud of the plaster, so the run is plotted to the units rather than to the wall behind them. Access through the property is usually the simplest of any archetype, with wide doors and generous rooms, so we can often carry a full-length piece straight in without a planned join. That is the shape of the day. These houses have solid brick internal walls rather than stud, so wall-hung breakfast bars and long unsupported overhangs can actually be fixed properly here instead of needing steel brackets everywhere.

How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Park Langley?

Wide verged roads with in-and-out drives and plenty of room to unload, but the houses sit well back behind long front paths and several have covenants on frontage alterations. Stone goes up on edge, and it is the half-landing turn rather than the flight itself that sets the maximum piece. Finding it out on the morning costs the whole slot, because there is no second route to fall back on. None of it is worked out on the doorstep.

Is worktop installation common in Park Langley?

It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop design & quotation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. Sealed before we leave. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. One visit, done properly.

Why do two Park Langley kitchens the same size price differently?

On a heavily veined stone the island and the run behind it are nested off the same area of slab so the movement relates across the room. On the day that means dry-laying the whole layout first and only then pulling and bonding the joins. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.

What has to be finished before you can template?

Where a column lands in the run the template plots its actual outline so the stone is cut to fit around it rather than stopped short and filled. On the day it means dry-laying, marking, and cutting the scribe on site before anything is bonded. Dry-lay, mark, cut, then bond. Give us the hardest, shortest approach to the door you can, clear of parked cars, and warn us of any soft ground, steps or gravel on the route. Where someone is living in the house through the work, the strip-out and the fit are planned so the kitchen is out of use for a day and not a week. The fitting day is arranged with whoever can actually give us access for the whole slot. One visit, our own installers.
