Park Langley kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Long perimeter runs and an island mean level has to hold across the whole room rather than along any one wall. Splashbacks come off the same slab run as the tops, which means the decision has to be made before fabrication starts. Same slab run, same day, same batch.
Large early-twentieth-century houses built as a garden suburb, with big rear kitchens that were originally servant space, so there is often a scullery, larder and back stair to absorb into one room. Finished kitchens run to a 3m island plus a separate utility and frequently a second prep sink.
These houses have solid brick internal walls rather than stud, so wall-hung breakfast bars and long unsupported overhangs can actually be fixed properly here instead of needing steel brackets everywhere.
Arts and Crafts houses have deep eaves, low windows and inglenook recesses, so the kitchen has more corners and reveals than its floor area suggests. Long runs mean more than one piece, and the joint belongs in a corner or on a hob centre line rather than mid-run. Decided before fabrication starts.
On these streets the housing is Edwardian garden-suburb detached, 1920s arts and crafts house, 1930s detached and post-war infill. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Splashbacks and upstands, in short
- Cut from the same slab run as the worktop, at the same time.
- Ordered later, from a different batch, the match is not reliable where the pieces meet.
- Socket and switch positions must be final before templating.
- The joint to the worktop is siliconed, never grouted.
Covered on our south east London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Getting stone into the room
Wide verged roads with in-and-out drives and plenty of room to unload, but the houses sit well back behind long front paths and several have covenants on frontage alterations.
Off-street parking means the van stays put all day, so tools, packers and the offcut we would rather have than not are all within reach. Upstands travel in a crate and can wait on the van, which gives some flexibility a full-height panel does not. That is why they are crated the way they are.

What gets asked for here
Honestly, this is not what we do most on this patch. Worktop design & quotation, worktop fabrication and worktop installation come up more often. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work, and nothing about how it is quoted, cut or fitted changes because of it.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop splashbacks & upstands in Park Langley
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Park Langley on your patch?
Yes. Park Langley is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are BR3. It is worked on our south east London run, along with the rest of Bromley. A drive that shelves towards the house needs the van chocked and the trolley controlled, since a loaded A-frame gathers speed quickly on a slope. Panels come off the van in one trip where possible, since a tall piece handled repeatedly is a piece asking to be chipped. One trip is always better than three. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop splashbacks & upstands in Park Langley be any different from anywhere else?
Arts and Crafts houses have deep eaves, low windows and inglenook recesses, so the kitchen has more corners and reveals than its floor area suggests. Long runs mean more than one piece, and the joint belongs in a corner or on a hob centre line rather than mid-run. Decided before fabrication starts. These houses have solid brick internal walls rather than stud, so wall-hung breakfast bars and long unsupported overhangs can actually be fixed properly here instead of needing steel brackets everywhere.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Park Langley?
Wide verged roads with in-and-out drives and plenty of room to unload, but the houses sit well back behind long front paths and several have covenants on frontage alterations. Weight tells on a staircase more than anywhere else, because there is nowhere to set a piece down mid-flight and no way to change your grip once it is moving. Splashback panels are lighter than a worktop and far more awkward, because a tall thin piece has to be carried on edge and cannot be tilted to clear a turn. It decides panel size before anything is cut.
Is Park Langley really a worktop splashbacks & upstands area?
Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop design & quotation, worktop fabrication and worktop installation. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way here as anywhere else on the patch. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. Ordered later from a different batch, the match is not reliable exactly where the pieces meet. Sockets final before template. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. Socket and switch positions have to be final before templating, because a cut-out in the wrong place means a new piece. Siliconed to the worktop, never grouted.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
If the island is a few hundred millimetres longer than the usable length of a slab, a second slab gets bought to gain that overhang, and the whole slab is paid for rather than the part used. Long runs almost never take a single panel, so the joint positions want agreeing before anything is templated. Joint placement is a decision, not an accident. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Park Langley?
An intruding steel column, a brick pier or a downstand breaks a run that would otherwise have been one clean piece. Where the wall cannot be made good, setting the stone deliberately proud on a subframe with a shadow gap reads as a detail rather than a bad fit. An upstand rides what a panel exposes. The range and extractor must be sited and the window cill finished before the template, as both fix the vertical limits of the splashback. Owner-occupied kitchens are usually being done once, which is why the edge profile, the vein direction and where a join falls are worth the conversation. A 100mm upstand is the low-maintenance answer, and full-height stone is the one that has to be committed to early. Same slab run as the tops.
