Peterborough Estate kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
A hundred and forty years of alterations sit under the current kitchen, and the worktop is what has to sit flat on top of all of it. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is why the visit happens after the units are in and not before. Units fitted, fixed and level first.
The estate was built to one repeated pattern, so the houses are near-identical: two-bay front, narrow side return, and a rear kitchen that after infill gives an L of roughly 3.6m by 2.4m with a 2m island.
The stock repeats, so keep the templates - the same joint layout that worked three doors down will almost certainly work again. Repetition works in your favour - once you have templated a few, the wall positions and the awkward step down into the old back addition are predictable across the whole estate.
The addition wall is half a brick thick in places and has usually had a damp course injected and been re-plastered, which leaves it neither flat nor consistent. Victorian party walls and chimney-breast returns bow along their length, so the template plots the real line rather than assuming a straight one - the template picks up points every few hundred millimetres down the back of the run and the drawing carries that curve through to the saw. Two to three hours, once the units are in.
The buildings themselves are mostly 1890s red-brick terrace with terracotta detailing, uniform speculative estate terrace, loft-converted family house and rear extension. Which of those you have decides most of what follows.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered on our west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
The shape of the run
An L can be mitred at the corner for a continuous look or butt-jointed over the gable, and the two are different money and different risk. The template records every angle in that shape as it actually is rather than as the plan drew it. One datum for the whole room.

What gets asked for here
This is the job the local stock asks for first, ahead of worktop fabrication and worktop installation.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
Getting stone into the room
Uniform terraces with small front gardens, low walls and a gate, and permit bays that fill by evening, so morning slots are much easier. Side returns are almost always built out, so there is no alley left and the hall is the route - about 1m wide with the stair immediately on the right and a doorway into the kitchen at the end.

Getting stone into a Peterborough Estate kitchen
Uniform terraces with small front gardens, low walls and a gate, and permit bays that fill by evening, so morning slots are much easier. Side returns are almost always built out, so there is no alley left and the hall is the route - about 1m wide with the stair immediately on the right and a doorway into the kitchen at the end.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop templating in Peterborough Estate
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Peterborough Estate on your patch?
Yes. Peterborough Estate is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SW6. It is worked on our west London run, along with the rest of Hammersmith and Fulham. A controlled parking zone means either a visitor permit sorted in advance or a suspended bay, and a suspension is applied for days ahead rather than on the morning. A templater circling for a space arrives late into a slot that was already tight, and the drawing is what suffers. The templater needs a proper stop, not a pause. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop templating in Peterborough Estate be any different from anywhere else?
The addition wall is half a brick thick in places and has usually had a damp course injected and been re-plastered, which leaves it neither flat nor consistent. Alcoves either side of the breast are rarely the same width and rarely parallel, so each one is templated as its own piece with its own scribe. No stone is ever cut from a plan. The stock repeats, so keep the templates - the same joint layout that worked three doors down will almost certainly work again.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Peterborough Estate?
Uniform terraces with small front gardens, low walls and a gate, and permit bays that fill by evening, so morning slots are much easier. Side returns are almost always built out, so there is no alley left and the hall is the route - about 1m wide with the stair immediately on the right and a doorway into the kitchen at the end. Communal stairs get boarded and the handrail padded, and we walk the route with a tape before the first piece leaves the van. Door widths, turn diagonals and any change of level are recorded on the drawing alongside the run dimensions. The template records it along with everything else.
Is Peterborough Estate mostly worktop templating work for you?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop fabrication and worktop installation. The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is inconvenient exactly when a programme is tight. Appliances on site, not on order. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. The template visit is booked once the units are genuinely in, not when they are nearly in. The room as it is, not as it was drawn.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
Where the return runs into a wall that is out of square, the corner is templated as the angle it really is rather than as ninety degrees. The template records every angle in that shape as it actually is rather than as the plan drew it. One datum for the whole room. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Peterborough Estate?
Floors settle, and once base units are packed and levelled properly the stone sits true while everything else in the room admits it is not. The template plots it as it is, at the exact height the worktop will sit, and the drawing carries that through. Measured at worktop height, nowhere else. Units fixed and packed level over the sloping floor, walls replastered and dry at their final thickness (tiling and splashbacks go on after the worktop, never before), and the sink, tap and hob physically on site, with a Belfast sink built in and set at its finished height. Owner-occupied kitchens are usually being done once, which is why the edge profile, the vein direction and where a join falls are worth the conversation. The templater needs the sink, tap and hob on site, and a Belfast sink installed at its final height. No stone is cut from a plan.
