Stone bar tops in Shadwell

Yes. Shadwell is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are E1. It is worked on our east London run, along with the rest of Tower Hamlets. The van is not staying on a main road for the day, so once the stone is off it goes and parks properly somewhere else. A bar fit runs longer than a worktop run, because the frame, the support and the stone are three stages and only the last of them is quick. Where the bay is timed, the support goes in first. Both visits happen in your kitchen, the template and the fit, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.

Send the peninsula dimensions including how far the top is meant to project, the stool count, and the internal dimensions of the service lift. Where a landlord or housing provider is involved there is a specification to meet and a process to follow, and both are settled before a date is offered. A home bar is discretionary work, so the edge profile, the corbel detail and the radius on the nose are worth settling properly rather than defaulting to whatever is quickest. If the units run late the template moves, not the fit: the gap between them is fabrication. Nothing is measured until the sink, the tap and the hob are in the room to measure against. There is nothing to pay before the template visit. The lift car, the loading bay and the building manager decide the piece sizes here, not the slab. A bar top put into a room like that is an overhang question first, because the nose has to carry people leaning on it long after the slab has stopped being interesting. Corbels are a decision about how the piece looks from a seat.

A Belfast or butler sink has to be installed and at its final height before the template, because the stone is cut to sit on it. Each cut-out is priced on its own line, so a range, a bowl and a half, a boiling tap and a drainer are four items rather than one. Island units are rarely fixed to anything at first fix, so they get screwed to the floor and levelled against the perimeter run before the stone is measured at all. Where the counter runs flush with the working surface instead of standing above it the whole thing becomes one plane, which looks better and doubles the unsupported span. Clear length between the returns sets the stool count.

Socket and switch positions have to be final before templating, because the openings are machined rather than chopped out on the wall. The joint between splashback and worktop is siliconed, never grouted, so it can move a little without cracking. A full-height piece behind the hob has to allow for the extractor, so that gets settled first. Boxed soil stacks and ventilation ducts run behind the units, and the boxing depth changes between floor level and worktop height. The carcasses are thin cam-lock boxes that will not take a leaning load on their own, so flat steel is let into them flush with the top of the frame before any stone goes on, rather than corbels being screwed to the front afterwards. The stone is the last element of the joinery, not the first.
