South Acton kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
The carry is the constraint: a single stair with tight half-landings, or deck access with a long walk from the lift. Almost everything that makes a fitting day hard is a property of the building rather than of the stone. Sink and hob seated and sealed before we go.
Predominantly new-build apartment kitchens in the regeneration blocks: straight runs of 2.4m to 3.2m, integrated appliances throughout, and leaseholders upgrading the developer-fitted tops.
The road layout changes as the phases move, so confirm the current access route in the week of the fit rather than relying on the survey visit. A large estate under phased construction, so hoardings, site traffic and changing road layouts.
The kitchen is a small square room off a narrow entrance lobby, and the turn out of that lobby is the real limit on piece length. The carry is the constraint. The slow parts are slow for a reason.
What turns up on the job sheets is 1960s-1970s estate block, phased regeneration new-build and Victorian terrace fringe. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
Housings and integrated appliances are set out for a 38mm laminate top, so dropping to 20mm or 30mm stone changes the clearances and needs checking before anything is cut. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. The prep list is not optional.
Where ownership is split across a building, the common parts belong to someone else and the carry route is negotiated rather than assumed. Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door, communal or otherwise. Access for the whole slot, or a different day.
Second or third on the list around here, after worktop replacement. Same visit, same bench, same crew, same lead time.

The building, and what it does to the job
The stairwell half-landing turn, which is usually the tightest point on the whole route and dictates the maximum piece length.

Installation is the day the templating either pays off or does not. Almost everything that makes it hard is a property of the building rather than the stone.
Access
Getting stone into a South Acton kitchen
A large estate under phased construction, so hoardings, site traffic and changing road layouts. Blocks have goods lifts, but access is arranged through the managing agent rather than the resident.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.
3–7 working days
From template to fitted, working days from template. The same on this patch as every other.

Questions
Worktop installation in South Acton
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover South Acton?
Yes. South Acton is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are W3. It is worked on our west London run, along with the rest of Ealing. Unrestricted kerbside is straightforward as long as the space in front of the property is actually clear when the van arrives. The fitting slot is set around it, which is why we ask about it when the date is booked and not before we leave the yard. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in South Acton change how worktop installation works?
The kitchen is a small square room off a narrow entrance lobby, and the turn out of that lobby is the real limit on piece length. Deck access or a single narrow staircase with tight half-landings means long pieces get walked up on edge, and the landing turn is checked before we commit. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted. The road layout changes as the phases move, so confirm the current access route in the week of the fit rather than relying on the survey visit.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in South Acton?
A large estate under phased construction, so hoardings, site traffic and changing road layouts. Blocks have goods lifts, but access is arranged through the managing agent rather than the resident. The lift has to be booked and blanketed before anything moves, and that booking needs to cover the old tops coming out as well as the new stone going in. We walk the route with a tape and protect it end to end before the first piece is lifted. That is what the morning is planned around.
Is worktop installation common in South Acton?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Housings and integrated appliances are set out for a 38mm laminate top, so dropping to 20mm or 30mm stone changes the clearances and needs checking before anything is cut. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. Sealed before we leave. Handover-spec kitchens are square, plumb and predictable, which means the join count is honest and driven by run length rather than by the building. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. One visit, done properly.
Why do two South Acton kitchens the same size price differently?
The catch with a galley is that both runs are seen end-on from the doorway, so any difference in overhang between the two reads immediately. On the day that means dry-laying the whole layout first and only then pulling and bonding the joins. The join is the last thing finished. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
Anything that has to stay accessible, a stopcock, a gas meter, a riser panel, is marked on the template so the stone is cut around it instead of over it. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. Eased in, never forced. Reserve a space as close to the block entrance as possible and clear the landing and stairs of prams, bikes and stored items. Mixed ownership means the decision-maker is not always the person who lets us in, so it is worth being clear early about who signs the quote off. The fitting day is arranged with whoever can actually give us access for the whole slot. Protection goes down first.
