Worktop templating in Angel
A digital template plotting the room as it really is, taken once your units are fitted, fixed and level.
Angel kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Nothing in a house of this age is square, and the kitchen is usually the part that has been altered most often. The template records what the building actually did, not what the plan intended, and the gap between those two is what this visit is for. Sink, tap and hob on site, not on order.
A dense mix of period flats and newer apartments, where period conversions put the kitchen in a rear room or a former closet wing on a 2.4-3m run, while converted warehouses and newer blocks give open-plan runs with an island. Whole-house Georgian jobs put the kitchen at lower ground with garden access and a long single wall.
Several surrounding streets sit inside camera-enforced traffic filters, so the route in for a van is not the route a satnav gives you. Upper Street is a red route with bus lanes, City Road and Pentonville Road are red routes on the southern edge, and the side streets are controlled Monday to Friday with some seven-day bays near the Green. Check the filtered-street layout before fit day, because a wrong turn through a camera gate costs more than the delivery and the legal approach usually adds a long carry.
Walls are thick, lime-plastered and built in a soft brick, so they take a scribe well and take a fixing badly. Alcoves either side of the breast are rarely the same width and rarely parallel, so each one is templated as its own piece with its own scribe. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn.
The buildings themselves are mostly Georgian terrace, early Victorian terrace, warehouse conversion and new-build apartment. A quote that ignores which one you have is guessing.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered from the Watford patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

The shape of the run
Two parallel runs with a walkway between them is the most efficient shape there is on a slab, because both pieces nest as straight lengths with almost no waste. Join positions and vein direction are marked on the template drawing before it leaves site. The drawing leaves site complete.

Getting stone into a Angel kitchen
Upper Street is a red route with bus lanes, City Road and Pentonville Road are red routes on the southern edge, and the side streets are controlled Monday to Friday with some seven-day bays near the Green. Several surrounding streets sit inside camera-enforced traffic filters, so the route in for a van is not the route a satnav gives you.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.
3–7 working days
From template to fitted, working days from template. The same on this patch as every other.

Questions
Worktop templating in Angel
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Angel on your patch?
Yes. Angel is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are N1, EC1. It is run from the Watford side, covering Hertfordshire & North London. A red route means no stopping, and no stopping means exactly that, so the stone comes in from a side street or from a bay behind the property. It is noted on the job sheet at template so the fitting crew inherit the answer rather than rediscovering it. It goes on the job sheet for the fitting crew. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop templating in Angel be any different from anywhere else?
Georgian houses put the kitchen in a basement or a rear closet wing, and the stairs down to it are the tightest part of the whole route. Victorian party walls and chimney-breast returns bow along their length, so the template plots the real line rather than assuming a straight one - the laser picks up points every few hundred millimetres down the back of the run and the drawing carries that curve through to the saw. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn. Check the filtered-street layout before fit day, because a wrong turn through a camera gate costs more than the delivery and the legal approach usually adds a long carry.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Angel?
Upper Street is a red route with bus lanes, City Road and Pentonville Road are red routes on the southern edge, and the side streets are controlled Monday to Friday with some seven-day bays near the Green. Several surrounding streets sit inside camera-enforced traffic filters, so the route in for a van is not the route a satnav gives you. The side passage is the measurement that matters, because a piece has to be carried flat down it and then turned in at the back door, and the turn is always tighter than the passage. Door widths, turn diagonals and any change of level are recorded on the drawing alongside the run dimensions. It goes on the drawing with the run dimensions. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Do you do much worktop templating around Angel?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. A kitchen carved out of a larger room sits under whatever the original plan left behind, so the run frequently ends at a blocked doorway or a boxed-in service. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is inconvenient exactly when a programme is tight. The room as it is, not as it was drawn. Conversions put kitchens where the services could be made to reach rather than where they belong, so runs are short and interrupted. Two to three hours on site, with the sink, tap and hob physically present. The room as it is, not as it was drawn.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
A galley puts the sink on one side and the hob on the other, which spreads the cut-outs across two pieces instead of weakening one. A layout templated off one wall instead of one datum will not sit right once all the pieces are down together. One datum for the whole room. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Angel?
Where a corner is a couple of degrees off, a mitre cut to a theoretical ninety degrees opens on the wall side and there is no closing it afterwards. One measurement never describes it, which is why a tape reading taken before the visit rarely matches the template. That is why the visit takes two or three hours. Units fixed and packed level over the sloping floor, walls replastered and dry at their final thickness (tiling and splashbacks go on after the worktop, never before), and the sink, tap and hob physically on site, with a Belfast sink built in and set at its finished height. The same building type can arrive as a careful one-off kitchen or as a fast turnaround, and the honest answer is that they are priced differently. The template happens when the units are in, fixed and level, whoever is fitting them. Appliances on site, not on order.
