Worktop replacement in Belvedere
Taking out a tired laminate worktop and fitting stone on the units you already have, in a single day.
Belvedere kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
There is nearly always a boxed soil stack or a service riser in a corner of the run, and it is rarely mentioned at enquiry. The units stay and only the surface changes, so the job is a day, and what makes it a difficult day is the building. A single day, planned properly.
The split between the hill and the flat riverside changes the job entirely, establish which end of Belvedere you're quoting before assuming driveway access. A hard climb from the riverside up to the higher roads, with plenty of houses set above the pavement behind steps; the lower estates have parking courts and rear access paths. Upper Belvedere has larger Victorian and interwar houses on the hill with room for a 3.5m run and an island once extended, while the lower streets toward the river are estate housing with compact galley kitchens.
Walls are dense block or in-situ concrete with a bonded plaster, so the bottom course of tiles brings plaster with it when the old top comes off. Ex-council flats and maisonettes are built in dense concrete and blockwork, so anything that has to be fixed back, such as brackets under a peninsula or support for an end panel, goes in with proper anchors and an SDS rather than plasterboard fixings. Sound carcasses are the one condition.
What turns up on the job sheets is Victorian villa, 1930s semi, postwar council estate and 1960s flats. The differences between them show up at template, not at enquiry.
True everywhere
Worktop replacement, in short
- The units stay. Only the surface changes.
- Old tops come out in the morning, new stone is down and sealed the same day.
- A plumber disconnects the tap and waste before we arrive and reconnects at the end of the day.
- The carcasses have to be sound: stone is far heavier than laminate.
Covered on our south east London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Getting stone into the room
A drive that shelves towards the house needs the van chocked and the trolley controlled, since a loaded A-frame gathers speed quickly on a slope. We stage the strip-out so the old tops leave in one trip rather than trickling out across the afternoon. Old tops out and new stone in, both through the same gap.

What gets asked for here
The research on this patch puts this at the top of the list, above worktop installation and worktop templating.

The building, and what it does to the job
Boxed-in soil stacks and service risers in the corner of the run, which eat into the worktop depth and have to be scribed around rather than cut square.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop replacement in Belvedere
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Belvedere?
Yes. Belvedere is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are DA17. It is worked on our south east London run, along with the rest of Bexley. Gravel and block paving both look like hard standing and neither takes a loaded trolley, so the run from tail lift to door gets boarded. A replacement is a two-way job, with old tops going out and new stone coming in, so the van needs to stay put across the whole day. Old tops out and new stone in, both through the same gap. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Belvedere change how worktop replacement works?
Walls are dense block or in-situ concrete with a bonded plaster, so the bottom course of tiles brings plaster with it when the old top comes off. The plaster is bonded straight onto the concrete, so the bottom course of tiles tends to bring plaster with it when the old top comes off, leaving a rough band behind the upstand. Units kept, surface changed, one day. The split between the hill and the flat riverside changes the job entirely, establish which end of Belvedere you're quoting before assuming driveway access.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Belvedere?
A hard climb from the riverside up to the higher roads, with plenty of houses set above the pavement behind steps; the lower estates have parking courts and rear access paths. A side gate and a back door mean the stone never goes through the house at all, which keeps the dust and most of the risk outside. We plan the strip-out and the carry as one movement so the kitchen is only out of use for a single day. It sets what the day actually looks like.
Is worktop replacement the job you do most in Belvedere?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop installation and worktop templating. Quartz suits let property well: no sealing, no annual maintenance, and nothing an incoming tenant has to be told to look after. Old tops out in the morning, new stone down and sealed the same afternoon. A day, not a project. Where kitchens turn over between tenancies the priority is a surface that survives a decade of being treated as a chopping board. The units stay and only the surface changes, so the whole job is one day rather than a kitchen refit. A day, not a project.
Why do two Belvedere kitchens the same size price differently?
Two parallel runs with a walkway between them is the most efficient shape there is on a slab, because both pieces nest as straight lengths with almost no waste. Going from a 38mm laminate to 20mm or 30mm stone drops the surface, which shows against tiles, a window board and any freestanding appliance. Carcasses have to be sound first. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
A notch around a boxed stack is machined with a radius at the internal corner, because a square inside corner there is exactly where a top will crack. The old top has been hiding it, so the first honest look at it happens when the laminate comes off. The laminate has been covering it up. Sort a parking bay or permit near the entrance, confirm the lift is in service and get us the door codes, and tell us about any asbestos survey on the flat before we start stripping out. These kitchens tend to be compact and reasonably square, so the fixed template, fabrication and fitting lines are a larger share of the total than the stone is. A plumber disconnects before we arrive and reconnects after we leave, and that is worth booking early. Units kept, surface changed.
