Brook Green kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Lath and plaster, a settled floor and a hall with a turn in it are the three things that decide how this job runs. The fitting day is planned backwards from all of it, before the first piece comes off the van. Sink and hob seated and sealed before we go.
This is family-house territory with wide plots, so kitchens are the big rear room after a side-return or full-width extension, running 4m plus with a 2.4-3m island and often a second sink in the island.
Because the extensions are new build, the walls are square and level, which means single long pieces and mitred waterfall ends are actually achievable rather than aspirational.
The back addition is a narrow two-storey outrigger with a single external wall, and the kitchen galley runs the length of it. The day is planned backwards from the hall. That is the shape of the day.
On these streets the housing is large late Victorian family terrace, red-brick Edwardian house, mansion flat and Victorian villa converted to flats. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
Getting stone into the room
Quiet residential streets with CPZ permit bays and reasonable width, so a van can usually get within 20m, but almost every house has a front path with two or three steps and a tiled Victorian threshold you do not want to chip. Where an extension is still under construction the back garden route via a neighbour or a side gate is often open and is far better than the hall.

The building, and what it does to the job
These kitchens are full of boxed soil stacks, gas risers and heating pipework, and the boxing usually stops short of the ceiling. The porter has to be booked, the goods lift protected with the block's own blankets or our own boards, and communal carpet and stair runners covered from the entrance to the flat door before a single piece moves. Walked, measured, protected, then lifted.
Get in while the extension is still a building site and take the stone through the open rear wall - once the bifolds are glazed you are back to fighting the hallway.

What gets asked for here
Owner-occupied kitchens are usually being done once, which is why the edge profile, the vein direction and where a join falls are worth the conversation. The fitting day is arranged with whoever can actually give us access for the whole slot. Access for the whole slot, or a different day.
It is on the shortlist for this patch rather than at the top of it, because worktop design & quotation comes up more often. Nothing about the process differs between the two.

Getting stone into a Brook Green kitchen

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Brook Green
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Brook Green, or just list it?
Yes. Brook Green is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are W6, W14. It is worked on our west London run, along with the rest of Hammersmith and Fulham. Without a bay the van ends up on a single yellow with a crew member watching it, which takes a pair of hands off the carry. A van that has to move mid-fit costs the best part of an hour and takes a man off the tools to do it. We would rather ask than guess. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop installation in Brook Green?
The back addition is a narrow two-storey outrigger with a single external wall, and the kitchen galley runs the length of it. The day is planned backwards from the hall. That is the shape of the day. Get in while the extension is still a building site and take the stone through the open rear wall - once the bifolds are glazed you are back to fighting the hallway.
Is access a problem in Brook Green?
Quiet residential streets with CPZ permit bays and reasonable width, so a van can usually get within 20m, but almost every house has a front path with two or three steps and a tiled Victorian threshold you do not want to chip. Where an extension is still under construction the back garden route via a neighbour or a side gate is often open and is far better than the hall. Carrying through the house means protecting the whole route first: floor boarded, banister padded, and the front door held open on a wedge rather than by hand. We walk the route with a tape and protect it end to end before the first piece is lifted. That is what the morning is planned around.
Is worktop installation common in Brook Green?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop design & quotation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Where an annexe has been built or converted, its floor and its walls are newer than the main house and behave differently under the same run. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. One visit, done properly. Extended households run kitchens hard, and that pushes the specification towards granite or sintered stone rather than a light quartz. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. The prep list is not optional.
What decides the price of a worktop in Brook Green?
On a heavily veined stone the island and the run behind it are nested off the same area of slab so the movement relates across the room. On the day that means dry-laying the whole layout first and only then pulling and bonding the joins. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
Where a run finishes into a reveal, the depth of that reveal is taken at worktop height and nowhere else. The back edge is eased in progressively rather than offered up once and forced. Eased in, never forced. Clear the full hall and stairs route of furniture, bikes, coats and stair-gates, and keep the front door propped and unobstructed for the carry. The householder is normally on site at template, and that is the right time to settle sink position, tap centres and overhang rather than agree them by email. A half-day of access is not a fitting day, and it is better to say so at booking than to find out at eleven. Protection goes down first.
