Canons Park kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Permitted working hours, a porter and a booked lift set a hard finish time on the day whatever stage the fit has reached. Almost everything that makes a fitting day hard is a property of the building rather than of the stone. Sink and hob seated and sealed before we go.
Well-proportioned interwar houses laid out around the park with kitchens usually extended once, giving a 3.6m run plus a modest island, alongside 1930s low-rise flat blocks with original small kitchens that are being modernised without moving the plumbing. Utility rooms appear in the houses, never in the flats.
Balcony access and long communal corridors are often the carry route, and both are narrower than they look with a piece on edge. This is the most managed day we do, with a hard finish time set by the block rather than by the work. That is the shape of the day.
What turns up on the job sheets is 1930s semi and detached, 1930s purpose-built flat block and post-war infill. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered on our north west London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
This is one of the three jobs that come up most here, behind worktop replacement. It is the same template visit, the same workshop and the same installers either way.
period detached houses and villas
Getting stone into the room
Wide roads with verges and drives on the houses, and the flat blocks have generous communal entrances but low-headroom stairwells that decide how a slab is turned.

The building, and what it does to the job
In the 1930s blocks the kitchen window sits low and the original tiled splashback is bedded thick, so allow for hacking off before the upstand can sit flush.
A low sill over the sink run is what decides between an upstand and stone dying into a window board, and there is often less clearance than an upstand is tall. Rushing that is what leaves a gap you look at every morning for fifteen years. Eased in, never forced.
The block's permitted works hours and the booked goods lift slot, which set a hard stop on the day whatever stage we are at.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Canons Park
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Canons Park, or just list it?
Yes. Canons Park is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are HA8, HA7. It is worked on our north west London run, along with the rest of Harrow. A drive that shelves towards the house needs the van chocked and the trolley controlled, since a loaded A-frame gathers speed quickly on a slope. A van that has to move mid-fit costs the best part of an hour and takes a man off the tools to do it. We would rather ask than guess. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop installation in Canons Park?
Inter-war purpose-built blocks have curved external walls and steel windows, so a run along an outside wall is following a genuine curve rather than a bow. The porter has to be booked, the goods lift protected with the block's own blankets or our own boards, and communal carpet and stair runners covered from the entrance to the flat door before a single piece moves. That is the shape of the day. In the 1930s blocks the kitchen window sits low and the original tiled splashback is bedded thick, so allow for hacking off before the upstand can sit flush.
Is access a problem in Canons Park?
Wide roads with verges and drives on the houses, and the flat blocks have generous communal entrances but low-headroom stairwells that decide how a slab is turned. A walk-up with winders at every half-landing means the piece is rested and re-gripped on the way, so the crew size goes up before the piece size comes down. We walk the route with a tape and protect it end to end before the first piece is lifted. That is what the morning is planned around.
Is worktop installation common in Canons Park?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Where kitchens turn over between tenancies the priority is a surface that survives a decade of being treated as a chopping board. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. One visit, done properly. Landlord work is scheduled around void periods, so the whole thing is a fixed window and the template date matters as much as the fitting date. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. The prep list is not optional.
What decides the price of a worktop in Canons Park?
An island is a single visible piece with four finished edges and no wall to hide against, so it is the piece the whole kitchen is judged on. On the day that means dry-laying the whole layout first and only then pulling and bonding the joins. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
A low sill over the sink run is what decides between an upstand and stone dying into a window board, and there is often less clearance than an upstand is tall. Rushing that is what leaves a gap you look at every morning for fifteen years. Eased in, never forced. Have the works booking confirmed with the managing agent or porter in advance, with the lift slot and any parking permit or bay suspension in place. Mixed ownership means the decision-maker is not always the person who lets us in, so it is worth being clear early about who signs the quote off. The fitting day is arranged with whoever can actually give us access for the whole slot. Protection goes down first.
