The kitchen is a small room off a hall with one external wall, and the window in it is the only relief in the run. Doorways are 762mm at best, and the turn from the hall into the kitchen is the pinch point rather than the front door. None of it changes the material, but it does decide whether the top comes out of offcut stock or wants a slab bought for it alone. The same stone as the kitchen, in a narrower cut.

Two bowls means two cut-outs and a bridge of stone between them, which decides where the sink can go. Nothing is cut out in the kitchen. Cutting a bowl on site is how worktops get cracked. A Belfast or butler sink has to be installed and at its final height before the template, because the stone is cut to sit on it. A doorway partway along one wall breaks that side into two separate pieces, and two short pieces cost more between them than the single long one they replace. Where the kitchen swallows the whole slab there is no offcut worth having, and the vanity then has to be priced against material bought for itself.
