Seven Sisters kitchens

What the kitchens here are actually like

Victorian terraceflat above shoppost-war block

Small, roughly square kitchens with a back door and a window in the middle of the run: short lengths, few joins, and a lot to work around. Protection down, dry-lay, scribe, then bond: the order matters more in a difficult room than an easy one. One visit, our own installers.

Runs are short - 2.1m to 2.6m - and the sink often sits off-centre under a window that was never designed for a kitchen.

Terraces along and behind West Green Road, many converted, with kitchens in the back addition and a fair number relocated into a former bedroom on the first floor. Where the kitchen has been moved upstairs the waste run is long and shallow, so the sink cut-out position is fixed by the plumbing - template around the existing waste, not around the cabinet centre.

A flat over a shop is reached by a separate street door and a straight steep stair, and that stair is the whole access question. Rear or shared-path access is often the only way to bring a long piece in without turning it in the hall. The slow parts are slow for a reason.

What we are usually templating in is Victorian terrace, flat above shop and post-war block. The differences between them show up at template, not at enquiry.

True everywhere

Worktop installation, in short

  • One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
  • Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
  • We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
  • Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.

Covered on our north London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Victorian and Edwardian terraces

Getting stone into the room

The junction and the High Road are a red-route environment with bus lanes and no waiting, so unloading happens on the residential streets and everything is carried. Above-shop flats have a shared stair used by several tenancies.

Where the frontage is a clearway the unload happens away from the door and the carry gets longer, which is a crew and time question rather than a stone one. The fitting slot is set around it, which is why we ask about it when the date is booked and not before we leave the yard. It is why the arrival time is what it is.

Getting stone into a Seven Sisters kitchen

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions

Worktop installation in Seven Sisters

If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.

Do you cover Seven Sisters?

Yes. Seven Sisters is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are N15. It is worked on our north London run, along with the rest of Haringey. Where the frontage is a clearway the unload happens away from the door and the carry gets longer, which is a crew and time question rather than a stone one. The fitting slot is set around it, which is why we ask about it when the date is booked and not before we leave the yard. The day is built around that window. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.

Does the housing in Seven Sisters change how worktop installation works?

The structure below is commercial, so the floor is often timber over a shop ceiling and the load path under an island is worth thinking about. Access is generally through the front door and a short straight hall into the kitchen, which is a good deal kinder than a Victorian terrace, though rear access through a back garden or shared path is often the better route if it exists. That is the shape of the day. Where the kitchen has been moved upstairs the waste run is long and shallow, so the sink cut-out position is fixed by the plumbing - template around the existing waste, not around the cabinet centre.

How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Seven Sisters?

The junction and the High Road are a red-route environment with bus lanes and no waiting, so unloading happens on the residential streets and everything is carried. Above-shop flats have a shared stair used by several tenancies. Weight tells on a staircase more than anywhere else, because there is nowhere to set a piece down mid-flight and no way to change your grip once it is moving. We walk the route with a tape and protect it end to end before the first piece is lifted. None of it is worked out on the doorstep.

Is worktop installation common in Seven Sisters?

It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Party-wall and lease conditions in a converted building set when noisy work can happen, which shapes the fitting day more than the kitchen does. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. One visit, done properly. A kitchen carved out of a larger room sits under whatever the original plan left behind, so the run frequently ends at a blocked doorway or a boxed-in service. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. The prep list is not optional.

Why do two Seven Sisters kitchens the same size price differently?

Two parallel runs with a walkway between them is the most efficient shape there is on a slab, because both pieces nest as straight lengths with almost no waste. On the day that means dry-laying the whole layout first and only then pulling and bonding the joins. Dry-lay first, always. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.

What has to be finished before you can template?

A run can measure dead right at both ends and still belly out in the middle, which only appears once the template plots the intermediate points. Rushing that is what leaves a gap you look at every morning for fifteen years. Dry-lay, mark, cut, then bond. Unlock any rear or shared path gate and clear both the hall and the back approach so we can choose the better route on the day. A street with houses in single occupation next to the same houses cut into flats produces two completely different jobs from the same elevation. Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door, communal or otherwise. Access for the whole slot, or a different day.
