A bus lane along the frontage brings its own hours with it, and stopping in one is enforced the same way the red route is. The kitchen is usually at the back over the rear of the shop, which makes it the furthest point from the street door. The bathroom is the small room over the kitchen, and the waste already runs where it needs to, so the basin position is more or less settled before anyone draws it. Older walls give a vanity nothing straight to sit against.

A template on a normal kitchen takes two to three hours in the room. If the units run late the template moves, not the fit: the gap between them is fabrication. Stone up a wall is heavier than tile and bonded rather than hung, so the wall has to be sound. An upstand covers the gap where the worktop meets a wall that is not flat, which is its real job. Ordered later from a different batch, the match is not reliable where the two pieces meet. These flats have been reconfigured more than once, so the kitchen often sits in what was a bedroom with services run a long way to reach it.
